Baitcon Ice Cream Flavors: Currantly Stout

Jul 07, 2014 13:38

This ice cream is flavored with Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout and Black Currants and is possibly the best beer flavored ice cream ever. Even some beer haters like it.

I wasn't sure about the bacon, but this one does sound good!

I haven't come across stout and blackcurrant: 'rum and black' is a classic, though not one I've ever drunk (likewise stout and champagne...)

And I think it's the whole sweet / salt thing that escapes me: salt caramel seems to be flavour of the month, and I just don't get it!

This is a smoked bacon which is cut thick, and after cooking is still thick, but crunchy and crumbly and very tasty, not greasy.

Incidentally, I'll be in Boston Wednesday-Saturday. How busy are you?

::sounds of hysterical laughter::
Aside from having just picked up a new super interesting client and having more projects in play than I can hold in mind at once?

Also, we'll have to make a new batch of the Bacon Cashew Toffee ice cream, but that requires weegoddess and me to be in the same place at the same time, and that's not likely to happen until late Friday.

Would love to see you but may be moving at 100mph the entire time. We do have crash space, though you may need to lean on Gabriel to make him clean it up first.

No worries on that, I'll be staying with Rex. *grin*
Soooooooo, how about I poke you Saturday and maybe stop by with an Elisabeth if that's at all possible, and if not, yay for new super interesting clients and delicious ice cream!

On Saturday roozle will be at Readercon and I'll be otherwise occupied in the morning. Afternoon might be good. Saturday evening there's possible social goodness - I'll text you about that.

Thanks for the recipe. This was fabulous! I am not sure I've ever drunk Samuel Smith's by itself, either. I think I should remedy that.

Glad you liked it! Yes you should remedy that. In fact, you and yours should come over and we'll make sure enough remedying gets done.

This was indeed the best beer ice cream I've had. Smooth and eatable and spot on for the flavor. (Others I've tried somehow bring out the bitter too much.) I'm guessing it's the egg that makes the difference moderating the whole concoction.
