Thanks to nearfar! I got his Casio 4-octave keyboard for messing around with (read: learning chords, western theory etc.,.) :)

Now, I need to somehow resume my music classes at Carnatica and that will leave me no time to think about stupid things like 'what is the meaning of my existence?'.

do you know what song they are dancing to? Theres another song mixed in during their nritta part. Its kinda obvious. But the initial music seems to be from a movie, they way it begins and all. I could be wrong. Do you know the title or ragam by chance?

I don't know of a Filmi song that goes like this. I'm sure there must be atleast some tamil filmi song from the 60s that goes this way. The song is called "Natanam Aadinaar" (I've heard this song being sung and performed by my mother and her dance troupe in my childhood). Its in Raga _Vasantha_ ("Seethamma Maayamma", the popular Tyagaraja kriti, is also set to _Vasantha_). More compositions in Raga Vasantha here.

do you like sudha raghunathan? some of her stuff is ok. Like the music from Morning Raga and this one Natanam Aadinaar. But the rest is not that great.

She has an excellent voice. Listening to Khamas in that voice is so beautiful. But that is where it stops. Her improvisation isn't that great, though.

I just wish the audience had the ability to snore in the same shruthi when she does her alapanais. ;)
