Madras, Nalla Madras: Besides all the associated 'high' of being in madras, talking so "fluently" in Tamil to something as trivial as a shop keeper, all the instinctual high that I get when I see
Madisaar maamis all over the place... there is one thing that always happens to me when I'm in Madras. Long walks can

1. Shakthi The Omnipotent - Guitarist Prasanna
2. Natabhairavi - Guitarist Prasanna
3. Vara Raga Laya - N.Ravikiran
4. Mystic Sounds of the Mandolin - U.Srinivas
5. Double Mandolin - U.Srinivas and U.Rajesh (there are several volumes of this all titled the same. pick up the one that has either "Brochevarevare", "Giriraja Sudha" or "Marivere-Shanmukapriya").
6. A grown up Srinivas wearing a 'jibba' and the text "raga" on top left - I don't know what the CD is called. It has one song in Vira Vasantham called "Emani Pogaduthura" and it _rocks_. Mesmerising is not just the word for describing the track "Srinivasa" (Hamsanandhi).
7. L.Subramaniam - Samarpanam
8. L.Subramaniam - Indian Express ("fusion")
9. Veena Praveena - Veena Balachander
10. "No title" - Veena Balachander with the rendition of "Banthureethi" and an RTP in Thodi. In his rendition of Banthureethi, he goes from 'sa' to Ma2 by just pulling the string! He totally rocks. :)
oh, and I can send you the yem-pee-threez of Dudukugala and Jagadanandakaraka of Mandolin Shrinivas sometime next week. :)

I already got 1, 4, and 10. Don't like L Subbu that much. Will surely check out the rest.
10 indeed rocks. When I bought this CD, I had never heard Balachander until then. 1st CD, 1st song was enough to make me a fan! The Thodi RTP is amazing too. I just love thanams in veena!
I already got the CD which has Dudukugala, but please do send me Jagadanandakaraka. TIA.

Great site! I love the reviews. I am a great fan of Srinivas and Ganesh and Kumaresh. I am trying to get CDs that you reviewed here but they are hard to come by in Boston. I was wondering if you could share the Srinivas piece you put up on the website? I am not trying to short-shift the artists here. I would love to buy them if available (and buy I will, the next time I visit India!) Thanks.
