In the descending order of how much I liked each of the movies:
I think I'm already a Toshiro Mifune fan! His mannerisms, His style of delivery (though I don't understand the language). Something to dig, really.
KaySov pointed out that
A Bug's Life is nothing but Seven Samurai in spirit. and just a while ago,
Jagadish points out that
Virumandi is Rashomon in spirit!
Come to think of it, Ran is quite like the Ramayana in many senses. Reminds me of some random interview of some tamil cinema guy on "Vanakkam Tamizhagam" on Sun TV who claimed to have developed a "menu driven" software that would let you build a story. Seems, there are only N different ways in which a story could 'branch out' into from any given "milestone" of the story. Its the story-teller that matters, no matter what story is being told. Yojimbo, that way, is quite a simple story with all the standard things happening. Its definitely a movie worth watching (a la 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly', 'For a Few Dollars More'). Sometime when I exhaust the 'National Market' supply of Kurosawa, Ray, Fellini and probably several other wonderful movies that I might discover (hint: like
Jibeuro that I _accidentally_ happened to watch and
Bom yeoreum gaeul gyeoul geurigo bom that someone I know was completely in love with).
