Aaamaango ! Namma Peru Adhaango !

I didn't notice the Jazz flavour until you mentioned it and now it has begun to grow on me. I must have returned to 'Yelae Nee Yetti Po' more than a dozen times since yesterday. Except for the mindless female chatter in between, that number rocks !

heh. you have some funny bone.

I didn't notice the Jazz flavour until you mentioned it and now it has begun to grow on me.

'Yelae Nee Yetti Po' is definitely a very potential earworm. But I think 'Kurangu Kayil Malai' is the "crown" Jazz element -- From ~03:30 to ~04:30 of the song -- there is some _amazing_swing_ to feast upon. That entire scale-change thing at ~04:20 is _awesome_.

Except for the mindless female chatter in between

I found that chatter 'okay'. Probably because, to me, the entire song was 'okay' and not 'awesome'. :) Its aimed at becoming a hit song. There is probably not going to be much experimentation he can do there.

Like how the 'Jazz Flavour' is growing on you, 'Poo Poothathu' is growing on me :) Its some real smooth Jazz! Watch out the opening rhythm. Watch out how 'smooth' the lines in the 'charanam' end... (specifically, "kathiravan kondu selvaan", "yevar vasam athu sellum yaar arivaar", etc.,.)

ok, Namma Peru Ramaswamy ;-) .

" From ~03:30 to ~04:30 of the song ..." - Jon Udell wrote a column sometime back that details a clever hack to play only sections of audio clips using the HTTP range headers. I don't know if that's helpful here - the article should be easily googlable.

BTW, the bit about "charanam" is a painful reminder of my ignorance - I bought a couple of Sangeetha Bala Paadam CDs yesterday . Can you please suggest some resources for learning carnatic meesic ? I am not interested in singing myself , but would like understand it a bit more deeply.

Oops, sorry, I didn't notice this comment of yours! The following will probably be of some use to you:

http://www.ecse.rpi.edu/Homepages/shivkuma/personal/music/varnams/ (check out the 'gentle introduction to Carnatic music' docs).

http://www.sawf.org/Newedit/edit05142001/musicarts2.asp (I couldn't find a better explanation of Swarasthanams than this one. Beautiful!)
