It's Friday which is always nice! Had pancakes and turkey bacon for dinner -- yummy! Madelynn helps me by dumping the ingredients in the bowl and then helping to stir everything. After that I take over b/c it's the actual cooking.
Work was so slow today. I got a lot of boring data entry done and we had an awesome volunteer help in the office, but the day was just slow. At one point Bill was in my office leaned back on my 1/2 chair and asked what time it was. When I told him it was only 2:30 we both just sighed b/c those last 90 minutes are always the hardest on a Friday.
We are thinking about going to the Greekfest tomorrow, but I'm almost wondering if we shouldn't wait until Sunday b/c even if it's raining at least it'll be cooler. But maybe tomorrow won't be so bad. We'll see. We also have to go the bank, drop some stuff off at the ADC, pick up my prescriptions (UGH!), and buy a few groceries. Plus, in the morning before Pete wakes up Mads and I will either go to the beach or maybe the park. I'm not sure yet.
The one fun thing I did today, which unfortunately only ate 10 minutes of time, was to make a "chore chart" for Madelynn so we can help learn what she needs to do. I used pictures instead of words since she doesn't know how to read yet. Each day she has to brush her teeth, brush her hair, pick up her toys, pick up her books, and put her dirty clothes in the laundry basket. For each thing she'll get a sticker and if she completes all 5 things she'll get a reward, like a piece of gum or a piece of spare change. As she gets older I can add tasks to it and she'll be able to save up for something big, like going to the movies or getting money to buy something for herself. Madelynn seems to work better on a reward system, which we discovered through our dinner routine. Most every night we have a meat, a side and a vegetable. But even if she's had it before she'll say, "What is this? I don't like it." (Typical kid, right! LOL) Anyway, we started telling her that if she eats everything we give her she can have some fruit. And it worked! Sometimes she'll say, "I'm done now" but only half the food is gone. She'll walk away and say, "Can I have fruit now?" And we always say, "No. You did not finish your dinner so you cannot have any fruit." And then she goes and finishes her dinner and then gets her fruit. So we're going to try this and see how it works.
While we are making great progress in our "declutter" and "reorganize" mission of the house, I look around and feel like there is SOOO much left to do. *sigh* It'll get there.
I also need to make more time for my cross-stitch. I've been lagging behind lately b/c this one is soooooooooooooo time consuming -- extremely detailed. But it's summer now and with almost nothing on t.v. I'll start begging for stuff to do. I'd like to finish it by mid-July so I can work on the second picture for Madelynn's room and also some smaller fun things for the church craft show/brunswick stew fundraiser.
Sarah, I trust my gut on that one. Just my $0.02.
