".... I won't be a replacement for him."

Many nights of restless sleep and flipping through every page of that damn journal. The journal of her and his other self. It made him mad. It made him jealous -- it made him feel like second best. He didn't want to be second best. He wanted to be her one and only, but he didn't want it like this.

With both of his golden eyes set forward, he took a breath and slowly turned to face his green haired artist.

"I didn't want to make you a replacement!" She cried out, head faced down her her dropping green bangs covered her pink flushed face. "I didn't... I didn't want to fall in love with you because you were exactly like him!"

As he stared at her, he saw her small body shaking and clenching tightly against itself. Something about her form looking so lost and helpless made his insides turn.

"Yotsuba..."

"I couldn't... I didn't want to do that to you... but you were so persistant!... and I loved being with you. I love you! I haven't loved anyone since Xigbar died in my arms!"

At that moment, Braig felt something snap inside of him. Was it his jealousy? Was it his possession? Or was it just his pride speaking to him irrationally?

"YOU FELL IN LOVE WITH A GHOST!" He yelled. She snapped her head up and recoiled, taking a step back from the loud voice. "Who are you kidding?! You STILL love him! You keep fucking comparing me to him! All those damn 'dreams' crap you asked me about my future! That was all a dream for you and HIM." He pulled the dark green notebook from his bag and shoved it to her.

"Take it! I don't want to read this shit anymore!" He saw her small hands shakily reach up to take the book and he dropped it before retracting his hand. Anger having clouded his judgement when she fumbled on holding onto a precious momento of her past.

His face was set in a frown as she lowered her head again and clutched the notebook tightly to her chest. Silence reigned for many moments, and he opened his mouth to say something -- demand something to break the silence, but he saw her body move and her face raised.

What he saw deflated any of his prideful anger that had welled up inside of him -- Yotsuba was smiling with tear droplets building up at the corners of her green eyes.

"That.. was cruel of me, wasn't it?" She glanced away nervously, that same smile still pasted onto her face -- she pushed a hair back behind her ear out of habit, "...holding onto a dream despite knowing the truth. I apologize for what I've done. ... and I'm sorry I made you come out all this way."

But she did something he didn't expect. She slowly bowed deeply before standing back up with that same wide but empty smile on her face. "I should be leaving now. I've... I've got lots to do and I'm sure you do to!"

"... you..." He had raised a hand up, wanting to brush those tears away. But Braig heard a sharp gasp escape her lips as she took many steps backwards -- as if a child pulling their hand away from the hot stove. "Yotsuba..."

At the sound of her name, she ran. She ran faster than she ever had, clutching onto the journal for dear life. "Wait!" He began running after her; slowly closing the distance between the two of them. He saw her head turn, and time stopped for Braig. Her tears were flowing freely now, and her emerald colored eyes reflected fear, sadness, and despair.

She was now lost. Staring into those green eyes, he knew that there was nothing he could say to take back the pain she was feeling. His pace slowed down and he watched as the woman of his life rushed away -- away from her greatest fear and away from the cold harsh reality of her actions.

Braig came to a complete stop when she had turned a corner, leaving his sights. "Fuck." His fists clenched tightly. "Fuck!" With no warning, he slamming his clenched fist against the side of a large light pole, ignoring the throbs of pain that pulsated through his nerves.

He was letting her go -- that's why he had come here in the first place.

But he couldn't shake the feeling that he had made the wrong choice.
