A few days ago I received a letter in the mail that I wrote to myself in fourth grade:
I love my subtle envelope decorating + addition of a 2nd middle name. I was so creative!
(props to photobucket for allowing me to messup my home address INTERNET SAFETY YALL)
My classmates and I never expected to get these letters back in the mail because the teacher who we sent these under ended up leaving his teaching job and family and running off to the Philippines with some woman...
(also, he was just out of his mind. his teaching methods and class projects were straight up BIZARRE.)
And now he runs some sort of boat-rental-tour resort on the island of Surigao???
Moving along...
the letter itself:
a drawing i included. wow. okay i was clearly very into south park back then...
...creepy.
He also included a personal note on the back of a business card paired with the letter:
Explanation: Every morning when he took attendance, he would ask each student a trivia question related to math, history, science, or any other random topic he felt like inquiring about. Those who answered their questions correctly would go on to a special tournament round against their classmates until one person was declared winner each day. Mr. McCormack kept track of who won the most, and 2nd semester I happened to be the champion. He promised me and Andrew (the 1st semester winner) these elaborate clock-sculptures he would personally fashion out of a globe. We never got our prizes.
For your entertainment purposes, here is the text of my letter. I had a lot to say to myself:
"Dear Kelly,
This is you, but from the past. I play three instruments (Do I still play Bass? If I do, a miracle must have occurred.) Anyway, I play Piano, Clarinet, and Bass. It's really something new - three instruments. I think I can handle it. Well just so you know, I absolutely LOVE sports, especially bowling and basketball. Last basketball season, my basketball team won 5 games. Even though we didn't beat the turquoise team at the finals, we still had a lot of fun. My brother Brian plays the clarinet so he gives me extra advice. My piano teacher Valerie Johanson is entering me in NYSSMA where I'm going to C.W. Post to play "Willow Tree Waltz" It's pretty easy, except for the end part when I have to do two arpeggios. One of my best friends, Gillian Grogan is in NYSSMA, but for the violin and piano. She might play a third instrument next year, but she doesn't feel she's ready yet. My favorite music groups are Spice girls, Celine Dion and Aqua.
Despite how much I like basketball, none of my seasons went well. 7 out of 20 games isn't considered to be very good. I also like baseball and softball but there aren't any girls baseball leagues around!! I don't have any summer plans except for going upstate New York to swim in Lake Oscawana. My grandparents own a cabin on the top of a hill. Once I opened the neighbor's mailbox and there was a huge hornets nest in there! I shut the lid of the mailbox and ran!!! My dad has a motor boat and we tie a piece of rope to the back of it and tie the other end to a boogie board and go "Boogie board surfing" by laying on the boogie board. When we do this, we have to make sure we don't go underwater! My favorite foods are: donuts, deep dish pepperoni pizza from Domino's, hot chocolate, Chocolate chocolate chip ice cream with LOTS of chocolate syrup and rice. There's a television show on Comedy central with four main characters - Stan, Kyle, Kenny, and Cartmen. Kenny never talks clearly and dies brutally in every episode except for the Christmas episode when Kyle is left out of all the fun so who appears? Mr. Hankie the Christmas poo! Mr. Hankie is Kyle's imaginary friend. (Sorry forgot to tell you the name of the show - South Park.) I admit, South Park is an inappropriate show for kids but they still watch it. South park does make fun of celebrities like Kathy Lee Gifford and Barbara Streisand.
I go to a theatre arts program every Friday with my friends Elyssa, Katie, Eileen, Erin and Dana. Katie, Elyssa and I are all "funky monkeys" who have barely any lines. I am starting a basketball/baseball card collection. So far, I have one card and that is a Joe Smith card. He plays basketball for the Warriors. His number is 32 and he was a rookie in the years 1995-96. My brother Brian has a card collection that must have at least one thousand cards in it. In my life, I've lost nine teeth and have a loose tooth right now.
At the time, I'm in P.E.P but don't enjoy it very much. We have to do algebra and write a daily P.E.P log about what happened in P.E.P and these days, kids just don't have the time to do it. Elyssa and I both agreed we feel imprisoned by our P.E.P logs when they are not finished. Our band is doing three songs for the spring concert, Russian Sailor's Dance, A set of Spirituals, and the theme from "Rocky." The Orchestra however, is doing Espana, Can-Can and Sinfonietta in D. The chorus is doing Gloria, You're a Grand Old Flag, and Castle on a Cloud(from Les Miserables.) My favorite movie I ever saw was Titanic. It had great visual effects but it was sad to see all those people dying. And it was all true. Whenever I saw it, my eyes would get teary. I like to collect things, especially beanie babies. I have 17 and my favorites are: Patti, Weanie, Baldy, Seaweed, Seamore, and Chilly. The first beanie I ever got was Chilly the bear (retired and now worth hundreds) and the most recent one I got was Weanie the dog.
Beanies aren't the only thing I collect, I also collect the tops of soda cans. I have about 115 of those and a collection of baseball hats, 1 nike, 1 Ranger, 1, Astros and 4 Knicks hats. My favorite book is "Pish, Posh said Hieronymus Bosch" because once my after-school art teacher read it to me and I loved it! "Pish, Posh said Hieronymus Bosch" is about a woman who is the housekeeper of an artist who has lots of strange creatures living in his house and the housekeeper is sick of all the creatures and riding to stores on a pickle winged fish. It's all like one huge poem. Well, I don't have anything else to say now so I'll have to close my letter now. I don't really know how to though, so it's been a pleasure writing this but my wrist feels like it's going to fall off and I have no more space. BYE KELLY OF THE FUTURE!! :)
From, the younger version of you
P.S. Will I be like I am now? In the future?"
Oh my god, you guys:
