Here is a brief update, as I haven't posted to LJ in SO LONG omg.
- I started (and completed!) two semesters of grad school. I mean, technically two semesters, but since they were summer classes it didn't really feel that way. Summer A was only an online class, and it was very low-key, but Summer B was pretty intense. I had two classes four times a week from 8:30-3, and while the morning class was kind of like a seminar of generally interesting and relevant things, but afternoon class was on how to teach math, and the professor, while very lovely and caring, hadn't really adapted the class for a four-week summer session, so we were all drowning in work. It went pretty well, though! So far I'm really enjoying the classes.
- I made some really excellent friends! Everyone in my program of twenty six people is pretty nice, but I am particularly close to three girls who are really awesome and we have a lot of fun. The group of people in my program got pretty close because that's what ~7 hours a day for four weeks will do to you, and it's really important as we're all in this hyper intense program together.
- I start my internship on the twelfth! I'm in a third grade class. I've already seen the classroom and met my mentor teacher, who seemed really fun and nice. Our internship starts with preplanning week and then actual school starts the week after. Throughout the fall semester, I'll have classes from 3:30-6 every Monday, and then two online classes that meet a few times throughout the semester.
- THE FINANCIAL AID SITUATION SORTED ITSELF OUT. The problem was mainly miscommunication from the office/lack of explanation every time I called, but it's okay. I did not starve or get thrown out of my apartment complex. The worst part is how long the money takes to get disbursed. (Lies. The worst part is how much money I'm taking out in loans.)
- Also I got a car right before I left! He's a 2013 Honda Civic and his name is Cesare and he is perfect.
- It was kind of weird going back to Gainesville without any of my old friends there! Some things were really different, but some things were totally the same. It's also weird comparing it to other places that I've lived, even elsewhere in Gainesville, but also in France. The saddest thing about having done TAPIF is that now I have friends from Europe that I can barely talk to anymore and it's the worst.
- Things that are also the worst: I REALLY WANT TO DO DRAGON*CON THIS YEAR DESPITE HOW FINANCIALLY IRRESPONSIBLE IT WOULD BE and I'm trying to figure out if it's even possible. Clearly I'd have to miss all of Friday but I might be able to go for Saturday and Sunday so my fingers are crossed that either I'll figure it out or I will return to my previous state of zen about not going because it's stupid and I really shouldn't go but Jaime Murray is going and cry cry cry.
