Auf Wiederseh'n, my dear- The Comedian Harmonists

So, in ninth grade there was this film festival, and I think I wound up going to all three movies they played that day. They played a Spanish film, a French film, and a German film. It was the first movie I had ever seen in German, and the first time I had ever thought German was a beautiful language. The movie was called the Comedian Harmonists, about a group of the same name in Germany in the 1930s. They were an incredibly popular harmonic sextet, and I know and love a lot of their songs- Veronika, der lenz ist da, Wochenend und Sonnenschein and Irgendwo auf der Welt are my favorites (Irgendwo auf der Welt being another contender for 'songs that make me cry.)

Anyway, because they were a sextet singing in 1930s in Germany in the 30s, and because the Nazi thing was going on, the group was forced to disband due to have of their group being Jewish. In their final performance as a group, they sing this song and... and they're just devastated. It's completely one hundred percent heartwrenching, because they know they're most likely never going to see one another again, and they will probably never belong to another musical group that's as compatible as this one, and an era is ending due to political stupidity, and they're actually standing up there crying and singing and it's so sad.
