So, I'm totally bored and pretending college essays don't exist and messing around on Wikipedia. I read up on Ted Hughes, That Bastard, and there was a link about Assia, who was the chick Ted left Sylvia for.
So, I click on the link, Russian-Jewish-German immigrant, aspiriting poetess, yadda yadda, moved into Sylvia's house (!) with her and Ted's daughter (!!) and took over using all of Sylvia's things (!!!) until she freaked herself out. She was very, very paranoid about Ted leaving her. Which is the story of the women in Ted's life, the whole lot of them.
Sylvia Plath killed herself by sealing the doors, taking some sleeping pills, and turning to stove on to be poisoned by the gas in February of 1963.
Assia dissolved sleeping pills in water for her four-year-old daughter, took some sleeping pills herself, dragged a mattress into the kitchen, sealed up the doors, turned on the oven, and laid down with her daughter in March of 1969.
Truth is stranger than fiction.
