Title: Calm After the Storm
Rating: R
Warnings: mild season 4 spoilers, breaking the fourth wall
Pairing: Chris Colfer/Sebastian Smythe
Words: ~3,200
Notes: I don't usually write RPF too much, but this was a ship I played out in an RP once, and I've been thinking about writing it in fic form but hadn't found the right plot. I saw this prompt on the kink meme and instantly had to write it.
Summary: A huge storm hits Ohio and Sebastian gets quite a hit on the head. He wakes up somewhere unfamiliar and finds things he'd never expected - including a man.
The storm wasn’t supposed to hit Ohio quite so hard. Sebastian also wished he hadn’t been home alone. He was used to being alone, true, but that didn’t mean he liked it. In fact, he’d been home alone for most of his life and disliked it so much, he’d do almost anything not to be alone - including break his “no relationships” rule. But that didn’t matter much. Not when he woke from the horrible crash.
He’d been lying in bed, burrowed under the blankets, when harsh wind gusts whistled through the windows. Sebastian’s house was nice - extravagant, almost - but he lived in it alone because his parents didn’t like Ohio much. As he’d been lying there in his second floor bedroom, he could hear the cracking of branches and the slapping of things outside against the house. What he wasn’t prepared for was the large, echoing crack that made him feel deaf, and the way the whole house seemed to crumble in as the tree fell upon the house.
Shingles and branches and other things all fell into the bedroom and Sebastian let out a yelp. His head was hit hard, and when he woke up, everything was different.
Sebastian looked around in confusion when he finally managed to wake. He was in a really nice bedroom, but it wasn’t his own. In fact - it didn’t even look like Ohio outside. Nothing was ruined or broken, just sunny with… palm trees?
As he rolled onto his side, Sebastian’s head started to throb. He let out a groan and covered his face, tugging the blanket up and over him. He was suddenly in far too much pain to care where he was. “Sweetie, what happened?” a kind voice asked.
Sebastian recognized that voice. He froze. Why the hell was Hummel of all people helping him? Sebastian lowered the blanket from over his head and looked up with wide eyes. The sight that greeted him was a strange one, though. Kurt was wearing the complete opposite of his usual clothing. Instead of his head-to-to designer-imitation clothes, he was wearing jeans and a tee shirt. A strange watch rested around his wrist and his hair wasn’t really styled. “Hummel?” he asked.
That caused Kurt to pause, and he spun to look at Sebastian as he asked, “Grant?”
Panicked, Sebastian shook his head, the throbbing rendering him dizzy, but he climbed out of bed anyway. He didn’t know who this person was or why he was calling him Grant, and that meant he had to get out of there. Gravity seemed to disagree, because two steps out of the bed, Sebastian found himself tumbling down, right into strong arms. “Woah, calm down there,” Kurt said softly. “Grant, what’s going on?”
“’m not Grant,” Sebastian mumbled, grasping his head as he was set back down on the bed. “My name’s Sebastian.”
“Very funny,” Kurt said with some humor in his voice. “You did that when you were cast and it was cute, but now you’re starting to worry me.”
“I’m not Grant!” Sebastian shouted angrily.
He glared up at Kurt - was that even his name? - and neither of them moved for a moment as their eyes met. “Do you know my name?” he asked.
Sebastian nodded and said, “You’re Kurt Hummel. Though I never thought you’d stoop so low as to wearing clothes like those.”
Now the guy - probably not Kurt - was looking at Sebastian like he was downright crazy. “I’m going to make a few phone calls, okay?” he said softly. “Will you please just lay in bed? Your head was hit pretty hard.”
Sebastian fixed him with resentment but rested back against the pillows, his arms crossed indignantly on his chest. Kurt walked across the room and pulled out his phone. He dialed Grant’s phone number, expecting the phone from Sebastian’s pocket that was resting on the bedside table to ring. But instead, it didn’t, and he heard Grant on the other line. “G-Grant?” he asked. Sebastian watched in confusion. “You… where are you?” A pause. “Oh. Really? Okay. That’s… very strange.” He turned and faced away from Sebastian as he tried to stay quiet. “Because I thought you were here and just playing a prank on me. You… or someone that looks just like you… showed up on my doorstep covered in dirt and wet from the rain, and your head hurt.” A nod. “Well… he’s claiming that his name is Sebastian. This couldn’t happen, right? There’s no way.” He took a deep breath and glanced over at Sebastian. Then he replied, “Yeah, I will. Okay.” He hung up and walked over to Sebastian. “So… Sebastian. Do you remember how you got here?” he asked, sitting on the edge of the bed.
With a roll of his eyes, Sebastian said, “One minute I was in my room and it was storming outside, and then a tree fell on my house and now I’m here.”
“Where is your house?”
“Ohio. That’s where we are, isn’t it?” he asked, even though he knew the answer was no.
The boy fixed Sebastian with a sympathetic look. “No… this is Los Angeles,” he explained.
Nothing was making sense. “Look, I’m really confused and I don’t even know what to call you. Could you just… tell me what’s going on?” Sebastian asked angrily.
“My name is Chris,” the Kurt guy said. Sebastian didn’t understand. “I… I don’t know exactly what’s going on, but it sounds like… some sort of fourth wall thing. Alternate universes. I didn’t think these things actually happened but there’s no other explanation.”
Sebastian just looked at Chris like he was insane. “Wait… what do you mean? Fourth wall? I know I hit my head but this is still really confusing,” Sebastian said roughly.
It all made Sebastian squirm, and when Chris saw him moving around, he reached out to stop him. “Just… relax, okay? I’ll explain everything. Let’s get you some food first, okay?” Chris offered. “I can give you something for the headache, too. Do you want anything in particular?”
Sebastian just stared at Chris. He didn’t understand what was going on. Why was he helping him? “I can do it myself,” he shot. “I want to know what’s going on.
Chris looked at him sadly and said, “Okay. Just… stay here, okay? We’ll talk and then get some breakfast.” Sebastian watched him expectantly. “Well… remember how you called me Kurt? I’m not him, per se, but I play him. He’s a character in a TV show. You are too, that’s why I called you Grant. The actor that plays you is named Grant Gustin.”
“How about the truth this time?” Sebastian pressed.
Chris sighed and said, “I can prove it.” He got up and rummaged around a box of DVD’s he hadn’t gotten around to organizing on a shelf yet. Once he pulled out the set he was looking for, he put in a DVD and the screen came to life with the word ‘Glee.’ Sebastian just stared as familiar faces flashed on a screen, and then an episode was pulled up. Chris fast forwarded to a scene of Kurt, Blaine, and Sebastian in The Lima Bean, and Sebastian’s jaw dropped. That looked just like him but he knew it wasn’t. He knew there weren’t cameras watching the conversation he’d had. “What’s…?” he trailed off. “No way. This is insane.”
“My thoughts exactly,” Chris said. “I can bring you to set on off-hours if you want to see more proof. But… really, we all thought we were playing fictional characters. We didn’t know you guys really existed.”
Sebastian curled in on himself in the bed. He didn’t like this one bit. Being alone in his own “universe” sucked enough. Being alone in a different one was even worse. This Chris guy wasn’t going to keep him around long, Sebastian was sure. It would start rumors that he probably didn’t want, and Sebastian didn’t want to stay in hiding. “Hey, no, don’t do that,” Chris said softly, reaching out for Sebastian. “What’s going on? Talk to me.”
“This sucks,” Sebastian shot.
Chris nodded and kindly reached out to slide a hand over Sebastian’s cheek. “We’ll fix it,” he insisted. “But right now we’ve got to fix you. I’m sure you’ll feel better just with some medicine and some breakfast. Any requests? I’ll make you breakfast in bed.”
Sebastian glared up at Chris. “I don’t need to be taken care of,” he said firmly, but the conviction wasn’t there. Truth be told, it was one of the only things he did need.
“Sweetie, let me just this once?” Chris pleaded. “Just until your head is better.”
Sebastian lay unmoving, and he avoided eye contact. Chris took that as a yes, and he went downstairs to make some scrambled eggs and toast. He put some coffee on the tray, and he tried to remember what Grant told him: Be careful with him. He’s actually extremely fragile.
When Chris got back upstairs, he found Sebastian flipping through the episodes, watching different moments, and always fast-forwarding to episodes containing him. “You’re not in many episodes, but rumor has it you’re coming back this season,” Chris explained.
Sebastian glared at him. He felt so cheap and disposable, the way Chris talked about him being in ‘episodes’ and ‘seasons.’ It sucked. “I made you some scrambled eggs and toast,” Chris continued. He set the tray on the bed and asked, “Did you want some Tylenol, too?”
Having someone make him food or offer to get him things was something Sebastian had never experienced before. He just stared at it and didn’t know what to do. He nodded just barely, and Chris went to get him some medicine while Sebastian slowly began eating. It was delicious, and if he weren’t so stubborn, he would have thanked Chris. He took the medicine that was offered to him, but as time wore on, it didn’t really help Sebastian.
Chris was glad to have a few days off so he could take care of Sebastian. He wasn’t sure how to get Sebastian back to his universe, so instead, he just focused on trying to make him feel better and more comfortable. Sebastian lay in bed all day, and by the afternoon, Chris was getting a bit concerned. Sebastian was starting to feel a bit better, he just didn’t want to go anywhere. He didn’t want to see proof that he was so far away from home. “Sebastian?” Chris asked as he sat down on the bed.
Sebastian dragged his eyes upwards to meet with Chris’s, and his expression was unreadable. “Are you okay, sweetie?” Chris asked softly, lying down next to him.
“I’m fine,” Sebastian replied flatly.
Chris didn’t believe him, though. “I’m really sorry that all of this is happening,” he offered, running his hand over Sebastian’s arm comfortingly. “I can’t imagine how scary it must be.”
Sebastian rolled his eyes. “I’m used to it.”
“Used to what?” Chris asked instantly.
Incredulously, Sebastian looked at Chris and said, “Oh come on, you should know my character already. I’m used to being alone. No need to apologize for it now.”
Sebastian looked away, but Chris guided his eyes back towards him. “What do you mean? I don’t know that much about Sebastian… Grant knows the most out of anyone, but… will you explain it to me?” Chris asked. “I… I want to hear it from you. Nobody knows you better than you do.”
It was a bit confusing for Sebastian, hearing Kurt’s voice but having it be someone that actually gave a shit, but he nodded. “My parents don’t live with me,” he explained flatly. “Mom lives in Paris and Dad lives in New York. They just got a house in Westerville so I could be a Warbler.”
“Have you always been alone?” Chris asked softly.
“Since preschool,” he shrugged. “Boarding school.”
Now Chris understood why Grant said he was fragile. Sebastian was so used to being alone that the help Chris was giving him might be overwhelming. “Sweetie, you don’t have to be alone here,” Chris insisted, pulling Sebastian gently into his arms. “We’ll help you. We’ll get you home.”
Sebastian didn’t reply. Part of him didn’t want to go home. He resented his parents for what they’d done, and he really didn’t want them around. He’d rather have a clone of Kurt holding him in some strange bed in California, even if it made no sense. Chris noted that Sebastian didn’t fight him when he pulled him into his arms, and he gave in almost right away. Sebastian clung to Chris and trembled a bit, mostly because he didn’t know what to do with his emotions. Someone was actually caring about him. It was a strange feeling.
Chris stroked Sebastian’s hair and kissed his forehead absentmindedly. Sebastian froze and looked up at Chris in confusion. “What?” Chris asked softly. “You think you’re the only one that gets lonely?”
Truthfully, with all the drama going on between Lea and Dianna and Naya ever since Lea admitted to dating Cory, he hadn’t been around much of the cast. Everyone was in different places now, anyway. More often than not, Chris was either home alone, or with his manager, and while that was great, it wasn’t the same. Sebastian shrugged in response, and neither looked away.
Chris knew that Sebastian was vulnerable, so he didn’t want to make any moves. Anything that might happen was entirely on Sebastian. Thankfully, Sebastian wanted it just as much, because he closed the distance to kiss Chris deeply. It was quick and dirty, and it felt half-hearted. Slowly, Chris broke the kiss, his heart pounding, and he looked down at Sebastian. “Hey, I’m not going anywhere,” he reminded him. “We can take it slow.”
Sebastian just fixed Chris with confusion, and everything dawned on Chris all at once. Sebastian didn’t know any other way. “Lay back,” he guided Sebastian so he was laying down on his back.
Chris settled between his legs, which Sebastian seemed hesitant to allow, and then he leaned in to kiss him softly. It was strange for Sebastian, not rushing through every step. Chris took his time and made Sebastian feel something in places other than his cock - it was an unfamiliar thing. It wasn’t just “getting off.” Chris was turning it into something more with every kiss of the neck and drag of his lips over hot skin.
Sebastian hardly remembered how Chris managed to get the two of them naked, he’d been so distracted by the newness of everything. Chris took his time memorizing every inch of Sebastian’s skin and Sebastian hadn’t realized that he was about to bottom for the first time in his life until Chris was rolling on a condom and sliding the tip inside. Sebastian gasped out and bit his lip, and Chris watched him closely. “Sweetie, breathe,” he whispered. He guided Sebastian’s arms away from his face and kissed him softly as he pressed inside.
Sebastian groaned this time, and he didn’t fight it because it felt so good. Not just the sex, but just being wanted and cared for. He held onto Chris tightly as their bodies melded into one, and Chris moved slowly as Sebastian’s legs hooked around him. “You okay?” he whispered.
“Mhmm,” Sebastian moaned, rocking his hips to meet Chris’s.
He kept trying to speed everything up, to satiate all these needs he felt throughout his body, but Chris was insistent that they take their time. “Nice and slow, Sebastian,” he whispered.
It was easy for them to find a rhythm as Chris thrust into Sebastian, and with each slow movement, Sebastian felt like he was building up to burst. His cock lay untouched between them, and Chris kissed along his jaw and neck until Sebastian’s fingernails were digging into his back. Knowing he could make Sebastian let go like this, the way he’d just relax and they could connect on this level - it made Chris feel good. He was close already, and Sebastian gasped out the same thing.
Gently, Chris reached down to stroke Sebastian in time with his thrusts, and Sebastian cried out. “Guh, Chris…” he muttered, arching his back off the bed.
“With me,” Chris whispered in his ear.
Those words were all Sebastian needed. He came hard, hot liquid spreading between their bodies and over Chris’s hand. Chris paused, his cock buried deep within Sebastian, as he came at the same time, the feeling of Sebastian’s body clenching hard around him making his whole body tremble with pleasure. They paused, unmoving for a moment, and Chris kissed Sebastian one last time before leaning back to slowly pull out of him.
Sebastian had an arm draped over his eyes again, and he lay on the bed, unmoving and a complete mess. Chris stepped into the en suite bathroom to tie off the condom and get a warm cloth to wash them off. When he returned to the bed, he saw some droplets of water on the bed near Sebastian’s face, and he gently guided his arm away. “Sebastian?” Chris asked, panicked at the sight of tears. “What’s going on? Did I hurt you?”
Sebastian just shook his head and tried desperately to hide his face. He was just so overcome with emotion and everything from the past day was bearing down on him and he couldn’t control his emotions. Chris quickly cleaned him up, and then tossed the cloth aside to climb into bed next to Sebastian. “Shh, sweetie, you don’t have to cry,” Chris insisted as he pulled Sebastian into his arms.
Words failed Sebastian, though. He just shook his head and let Chris hold him. Chris wasn’t sure how long they laid there, but finally he felt a little better when Sebastian choked out, “Don’t wanna go back.”
Chris looked down at Sebastian, who kept his face buried in his chest. “Why not?” he asked.
Sebastian took a deep, wavering breath, and then whispered, “Don’t wanna be alone again.”
It dawned on Chris what the whole crying episode had been about. Sebastian wasn’t used to affection or attention - or being cared about or wanted in that way. “You won’t be alone, Sebastian,” Chris whispered. “I’ve got you. You’re okay.”
Sebastian knew he should have felt weak, but he didn’t. He couldn’t. Not when he finally felt like he mattered. Being with Chris made things feel easier, like maybe everything would turn out okay, and more than anything else, that was what Sebastian needed. “Thank you,” Sebastian croaked out softly.
“You don’t need to thank me, sweetie,” Chris whispered, kissing the top of Sebastian’s head. “Just get some sleep, okay? I’ll be here when you wake up.”
Sure it was only midday, but Sebastian was exhausted, so he let himself be pulled off to sleep. Chris knew he should have been more careful, maybe not given in to those urges like he had, but Sebastian needed it, and he did, too, and maybe this was the answer to all of his hoping about not being so lonely anymore. Chris knew he had to help Sebastian in any way he could - he just hoped helping meant not having to say goodbye, either.
