Our 2nd Anniversary

For our second anniversary, Daryl and I decided to head back up to Harrison to finish the "Sasquatch Stomp", a set of geocaches that are hidden in Sasquatch Provincial Park. Each cache has a clue card which you need to solve a crossword puzzle which, when completed, gives the coordinates of final cache. We had found 2 before while camping with Kate and Mike so we only had 6 more to find.

This is the first cache of the day. We found it easily at the day use area at the entrance to the park.

Daryl wanted me to stand and point to where we found the cache but mosquitos were bothering me...hence the funny face! :)

On the shores of Harrison Lake.

After leaving the day use area, we headed to Hicks Lake campground. This is at the beaver pond.

At a lookout over the beaver pond (it's only a 20 minute hike around the whole thing).

The beaver pond cache. I found it in like 3 seconds. I love caching!

For the third cache of the day, we had to hike up the group campsite roadway. Unfortunately I read the clue for another cache so we spent about 30 minutes looking for a cache in a hollow log....it turned out it was in the rocks. Oopsie!! We found it eventually but that's why I look a little tired!

The next cache was a little tricky too. This was the one that was in the hollow log but there were TONS of logs around. Daryl's leg got trashed so we took a pic of it. Unfortunately the camera setting got changed so the pics of this cache are super blurry.

We continued along the lake and onto an old hydro road to find the next cache. It was 3.5 kilometres there and another 3.5 back! It was a long and hot hike but we needed to get the clue! Here is Daryl along the way. It was gorgeous scenery as we were in the back country of Harrison Hot Springs and people rarely hike it that far.

Fantastic scenery!

Almost there......when we did finally get there the flies were horrible! All we wanted to do was take a break in the shade but they wouldn't leave us alone. Another stupid thing that we did was only bring one bottle of water! We had to ration it along our hike. When we finally got back to the campground, we found the water pump and filled our water bottles and drank and drank and drank! We were so thirsty. We had all the clues now but we were so tired, hot and hungry that we only got the first few clues filled out and then decided to forget about the final mystery cache for today and get ice cream from the town of Harrison. We were SO grateful for it! It was lovely and cool and we stood in the lagoon and cooled off our feet while trying to keep the ice cream from dripping down our arms. We were going to stay for dinner in Harrison but had now filled up on ice cream so we decided to try and find the Greek Islands location in Chilliwack on the way home. With the help of google maps on my cell phone, we found it with no problem. It was a really  nice building but we were really disappointed that they had taken lamb souvlaki off their menu (apparently the people of Chilliwack don't appreciate their lamb!). So we had to settle for beef and chicken. They were both really good and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We got home at about 9 and were just exhausted. It was a fantastic day though and we had a blast!
