Sailing with Chris and Rachel - Day Two

Jul 05, 2009 09:32

I woke up at about 8 and Chris and Rachel went ashore while Daryl and I cleaned up the boat and stowed everything away. We usually have large messy breakfasts consisting of bacon and eggs and toast but we decided to just do cereal on this trip and it made clean up SO much easier. We were on our way by about 10 and unfortunately, there were no killer whales by the entrance to Bedwell this time. There wasn't much wind but Rachel had lent me a good book so I was happy to hang out in the cockpit, reading. It was slow going as Chris insisted we try to sail to Wallace Island, our destination for the night. Eventually we got a little bit of wind but we had to put the motor on as well. I went down below for a nap and then when I woke up, Daryl asked if I wanted to go in the Zodiac with him to check out Conover Cove and Princess Inlet to see which one had the most room. There was no room at the dock at Conover so we headed over to Princess Inlet and there were only about 5 boats in there. I dropped Daryl off at the boat and then took Rachel out for a spin in the Zodiac. We zipped around and found a baby seal with it's mother on some rocks. It was so cute! We had to follow Chris and Daryl in because they needed our help. It's such a narrow inlet that you have to put out a stern line. Rachel and I tried to do it but failed and had to be relieved by Chris and Daryl. Once we were all settled in, Daryl dropped Chris and Rachel off on shore to go for a walk while I tidied up the boat. Daryl and I wanted to stretch our legs too so we decided to go for a walk too. We ended up going off the trail and having to do some bush wacking. We found a rope swing that you jumped off into the ocean but by then the weather was changing and I really didn't want to get into the cold water. We also found the Wallace Island sign. We headed back after about 30 minutes and figured that Chris and Rachel would be back as well. They weren't so we went back to the boat (we could see the dock from where we were anchored) and I started to prepare dinner. They still weren't back so Daryl had a beer and I had one cider....and then another cause the first was so darned good. Yeah, those things have 7% alcohol in them.... Needless to say, I felt very happy! Chris and Rachel eventually joined up and we all were enjoying ourselves. I made a hamburger, baked beans, onions and green pepper concoction and we had it with potatoes and broccoli. We were all eating outside when we started to talk about Granny's cleaning woman, Tina. Or “Tina, the Cleaner”....put an English accent on that with just a hint of gangsta and we were all in gales of laughter. Well, Rachel laughed after eating a piece of broccoli and got it stuck in her esophogus! It was pretty freaky and she was barely able to get any air in and Chris had to do “j” thrusts on her to dislodge it. Luckily she was ok, but we realized that you have to be very careful when you're out there because there is no way we could have gotten any professional help until it was too late. Of course the doctor had to be the one to choke! After doing dishes, we all headed ashore for another walk. I had great fun and we found this cool cabin that had all these messages on driftwood from other visitors. I also went up to the old abandoned cabin and hid on Daryl and then threw mini apples at him when he tried to find me! Did I mention that I had two ciders? There was this old cement building with a small opening (like a wood grate or something in it as the only entrance) so Chris went and opened it up and there were two people inside it! Weird. Not my idea of fun. We headed back cause it started to get dark and we played this game of Rachel's that was like Blurt. You drew a word and had to get people to say the word by giving them clues about the word but not actually saying the word itself. It was quite fun but we had to play it inside cause otherwise we would have disturbed people sleeping. Chris also made us play in the dark cause he wanted to conserve the battery power for as long as possible. Then Chris took down the clock because Rachel said it had “angry ticking” and that she couldn't sleep the night before cause of it! I was pretty shocked as that clock is somewhat of a relic and has been on our boat forever! We played some more cards and then Chris made us go to bed to save battery power. :)
