Day 24: Wednesday, August 20, 2008
Regina, SK to Lloydminster, SK/AB
I woke up at 6:30 with my nose just streaming and of course, I couldn't go back to sleep. Daryl was awake too so we decided that we could book a hotel for Edmonton for tomorrow night, in order to avoid the stress that we went through yesterday. With that out of the way, we figured we should get our tickets for the football game tomorrow night. Daryl had told me back in July that there was no way we needed to worry about getting tickets for this game because the stadium was so big. Ha. When we went to Ticketmaster, all they had available was row 82 out of 84 rows, right in the second level. I was choked because we knew we wanted to go to this game for awhile so we should have got our tickets ages ago. We decided that we would go to an actual Ticketmaster location because sometimes they have access to better seats. The nearest location didn't open until 10 but by now it was 8:30 so I showered and we packed up. The Ticketmaster was at the Casino Regina but when we went in there, we found that we had to pay for parking. As we were leaving, I saw it was only 80 cents per half hour but Daryl decided that we would go to the Rider store at Taylor field before - that way if I couldn't find anything cool, we would park at the casino and then go back to the mall where we found the Rider gear yesterday. We drove about 5 minutes to Taylor field and we noticed that there were lots of cars there. One of the sliding doors to the field was open so we decided to check it out. There were 2 guys and a little boy there and they said that the Riders were practicing this morning at 10 and they were having an open practice. We walked into the stadium and a lady came down and greeted us but then told us that it was actually a closed practice but we were welcome to come on to the field and take some pictures. So we did! Yay! It was so awesome! Even Daryl was quite impressed. We took lots of pics and then started to leave when we noticed the two guys and the little boy were sitting in fold up chairs by the door. Apparently the lady said that we could stay as long as we were inconspicuous. Sweet deal! So we got to see the Riders practice!!!! It was awesome. After about ½ an hour though, we decided that we should check out the Rider Store before being on our way. Wow!! It was wicked! It had AWESOME gear and I didn't know where to start. I knew that I wanted a coat so I got one of those and of course some tattoos. I also got an awesome cowboy hat, some beads and a scarf (which I will probably need at tomorrow's game since it's outside and the forecast is 15 degrees and rain). I could have picked up way more but I needed to stop somewhere. I think Daryl was jealous - he kept saying that the Lionsdon't have any stores that come close to this for awesome merchandise. We went back to the casino and had a very nice lady help us get good seats for the game tomorrow. She managed to find us lower level seats in section A (which I'm hoping will be somewhat covered) and then because she was so good, we asked her to help us find tickets to the BC/Saskatchewan game on the 13 of September which Mike, Corey, Kate and Heather are (hopefully) going with us to. I'm glad that we got those cause we all know what happens when you wait to get tickets! When we got out, it was a lot later then we though but we were prepared to pay our $1.60 for parking. When we got to the attendant, she said that cause we're from BC, it was free! Sweet! We headed out of there and on our way out of Regina, we stopped by the Legislative buildings because then we're pretty much seen all the parliament buildings from BC to Ontario! They had beautiful grounds with a huge lake in it which you could fish in. There was this one Canadian goose that Daryl chased and then I guess it was so pissed off that it decided to chase me! It seriously came right after me! I was so scared - I thought it was going to bite me! We took some pictures and when we were walking across the front lawn, Daryl either found a giant puddle of dog piddle or where the sprinkers leak cause he soaked his foot. We left Regina at about noon and Daryl figured that we would get lunch in the next town. Haha! The next town was Saskatoon, 2 and a half hours away! I was feeling super sick with a headache and all nauseous so the drive was no very pleasant for me. I tried to sleep but couldn't really. The fact that we hadn't had breakfast probably didn't help. We finally got some lunch in Saskatoon and I felt better but I couldn't taste anything!! It sucked. We continued on until we got to Lloydminster which is a city on the border of Saskatchewan and Alberta - so half is on the Sask side and the other half is on the Alberta side. We wanted to stay on the Alberta side cause they have no tax! I wonder how that works for this city.... Anyway, we wanted to camp tonight since we're hotelling it in Edmonton tomorrow. We went north of the city for 19 km until we found Sandy River regional park which was going to cost us $8 to enter the park and then another $20 to camp. We drove in to look at the sites and they were just pathetic - there were no trees and all the sites were right on top of each other with no privacy. No thank you. We headed back to Lloydminster to try and find a motel. Daryl tried almost all of the big chains (all but the Ramada) and they were all ridiculously expensive. We finally went back to the Sask side and found this sweet little family run motel that had a suite for a very reasonable price. The owner was quite sweet and told us he'd rather have nice people in his rooms then a full motel with not so nice people. We were very happy as the skies had turned dark and the threat of rain loomed. We went to dinner at Humpty's family restaurant and I ordered a chicken wrap. I took a few bites and couldn't taste it so I passed it over to Daryl to tell me how it tasted. He didn't rave about it but he didn't say it was horrible either - he just said it was ok. I had a few more bites and tried to give Daryl more but he refused, finally telling me the truth that it was nasty! Haha! I guess there are some advantages to having a cold! After dinner, we went down the mainstreet until we came across a Walmart. I'm actually impressed with the size of this town - I had no idea it was so big. It wouldn't be bad to live on the outskirts of. At Walmart, we got a couple of DS games cause we are SO bored with the ones we have and I also got some vitamin C so hopefully I can shake this cold relatively quickly. When we got back to our room, the skies opened and it poured. It's freezing outside and we're so glad that we decided NOT to camp tonight!!!

I'm on Taylor Field, home of the Saskatchewan Roughriders!

Lying on the turf - it was nice and soft and rubbery.

Roughriders RULE!

Under the goal post.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders practicing.

Daryl and the Parliament Buildings in Regina.

Daryl's wet footprint.

Me and the gardens.

Daryl chasing the goose. There are no pictures of the goose chasing me. It was too stressful and scary and no one was even thinking about the camera at that point!

The lake on the grounds.

Daryl and a statue of the Queen.

Ok, so I've seen many a squished bug in the grills of cars but a bird?? Seriously. It was pretty gross. That's why I had to look closer. And also why I had to share it with all of you.
