The Six who has a name but doesn't hear it often was instructed to turn Baltar's head, and she does that very well. Two years she's directed a slow and steady hemorrhage of information to her siblings, enjoying her mark's company, convincing herself that she is maintaining a respectable distance, when Gaius proposes.
"Excuse me?" She sputters inelegantly, nearly choking on her ambrosia. It is the twilight of a glorious fall day, and they are indulging in cocktails on terrace, the breeze ruffling the diaphanous skirt of her dress about her legs enticingly.
Gaius doesn't come out and say that his publicist and legal team have suggested it directly, but there have been several stories in newspapers that have come out about his lascivious behavior. Having a wife- even if it wasn't public knowledge- would make the courts more inclined to favor the libeled genius. "It won't change anything," he hastens to add, taking her hesitance for independence, "Just a few forms. Your employer need never know, darling."
He comes over to her, taking her glass away to loosely tangle her fingers with his. He thinks this is a good option, a safe one for him, regardless of how selfish it was. "This is so romantic, I can hardly think," she says pointedly. It makes the furrow in his brow disappear, and he laughs. Even if he is a scoundrel, she is foolishly fond of him, and wants to help. "I'll do it."
She kisses him then, restraining herself to see if he'll respond. He does, as he always has, and Six's heart beats faster, despite what she knows.
