(Another tongue-in-cheek entry!) Most people when they learn I have six children and homeschool them, assume I am super!homemaker. And really, I must confess that I have always wanted to be Caroline Ingalls--you know, Laura Ingalls Wilder's mother. The woman who never yelled at her kids, taught them at home, kept an immaculate house, and made do with no complaints. Unfortunately, I'm not her. I'm actually pretty poor at all the homemaker type things. This was brought home to me recently once again by my best friend.
To understand this, you need to know that my best friend IS Caroline Ingalls. When I met her she was homeschooling her first four children and even though we are very different personalities, those things we thought important were the same so we formed a strong, if improbable, friendship. I learned from her how to allow my children to be children and still hold them to high standards of behavior, that it was O.K. to apologize to your children when you get off track and let them know you will now be getting everyone back on track, and how to be generous and giving with your personal time and possessions.
So recently, my friend told me how much she appreciated me and what I had taught her during our 20 year friendship.
1. You don't have to wear make-up every day.
2. You don't have to sort through every dried pinto bean looking for rocks, and (wait for it)
3. Dishes dry just as well in the cupboard as they do in the dish drainer or with a towel.
HEAD DESK!!!! :-)
