I was able to reread The Thief and The Queen of Attolia before The King of Attolia got in from the library, and
rj_anderson and
attackfish are both right that it is an amazing book. I was surprised that we got to watch Gen through the eyes of another character for most of the book, but the device worked well and now I can't wait to see that character again. Meghan Whalen Turner also writes the most beautifully ambiguous dialogue I think I've ever read. And I felt SO superior to all those silly Attolians who had no clue what was going on. The book has one of the most romantic dances ever written--and I have no idea how I'm going to wait until Gen takes on Sounis in the next book. If it takes Turner as long to write the next book as it did between Queen and King, we have 4 more years to wait! Argh!
Surprisingly, I think I was more "blown away" by the reveal at the end of Queen (although I saw it coming) than I was by the machinations in King, but I can see wanting to reread King more frequently. And at this point, I have no desire to find any fanfiction for the series. Irene is dealing with Gen's angst just fine, thank you very much.
