The boy’s outdated heroism would irritate Beckett to no end if he couldn’t use it to his own advantage.
That ridiculous eagerness to please coupled with the need to oppose amuses him at best.
The hope-filled puppy love is simply annoying. It’s doomed to fail anyway, if the fire in Miss Swann’s nature is anything to go by. She thinks she can catch a sparrow, the boy probably already has - without really wanting to but enjoying it anyway.
And Beckett can’t help but wonder what Turner would do if he just leaned in and kissed away that annoying, childish pout.
