Phoenix is sprawled on the sofa, her head in Raven’s lap, sighing contently as Raven’s fingers wade through her thick mass of dark red hair. Raven closes her eyes and revels in the raw, untamed power that radiates from the other woman. It fills her with a sense of loss but also need, and not just for her old life.
“Why are you here?” she finds herself asking. She’s been meaning to for a long time now and she’s not cowardly enough to keep it back any longer. It makes no sense to her: why would the most powerful mutant in the world come searching for her? An interest in Mystique she would have understood, would have almost expected, but she has had to force herself to go back to being just Raven. Even after a year it still physically hurts, as if some vital part of her had been ripped out of the marrow of her bones.
Phoenix is looking up at her intently, as if she could look right into her soul - the way she had that day she first knocked on Raven’s door a few months after everything ended. After Erik had encountered the same fate as Raven herself. After Charles.
Phoenix’s soft touch on her thigh pulls Raven out of her thoughts. There’s a smirk on those full lips that remind Raven just how similar this beautiful creature is to what Raven herself used to be. Unapologetic, determined, taking what she wants. And she’s painfully aware that in this form she’s no match to Phoenix. No, it makes no sense at all...
Phoenix shifts and Raven can see in her eyes that she’s read the thoughts running through Raven’s mind - she never asked for permission, and Raven loves even that about her. She leans in, capturing Raven’s lips in a fierce kiss that leaves them both breathless. There’s a sudden, unexpected surge of power and the fly of Raven’s trousers opens with tantalising slowness, making her moan into Phoenix’s mouth, just before her clothes dissolve into nothing. She’s about to protest but whatever she was about to say turns into a lustful gasp as Phoenix pushes her legs apart and pushes her tongue deep into Raven.
