summary: AU S3 in which Elena is a vampire and Klaus is just a bit annoyed
The motel is clean and inviting, as far from the cliché Elena had in mind as only possible and it makes her skin crawl with annoyance. A nice old lady hands over thee keys and smiles at Elena with kindness, probably thinking she is a runaway child, trying to stand on her own two feet. And even when she returns two hours later with a drunk, horny guy constantly grabbing her butt or breasts the woman's warm smile remains.
The guy is called Sergio, speaks broken English and has big dreams that made Elena cry when he told them to her over too much tequila at the bar. He kisses hard like he wants to bite, devour, and his eyes shine with too much cockiness. Elena thinks of Damon and rips Sergio's shirt. His hands are unbearably gentle as they open her bra and Elena rakes her fingernails across his bare chest to scratch the image of Stefan from her shattered mind. When Sergio fucks her it's hard and painful and Elena finds herself crying, yet craving more, just like the night she seduced and then killed a vampire to drink his blood. Three years have passed since that night and she still wishes she'd had had the courage to take her own life then, wishes she didn't have to call Katherine in tears to end what she had started.
But Katherine's long gone and Elena has learned not to start anything she can't finish herself. She still thinks of Katherine's cold fingers around her neck as she’s sinking her teeth into Sergio's neck and she holds him down as he starts thrashing. She doesn't drain him, though, pulling back while he's still conscious and fighting back viciously.
She smiles Katherine's smile.
"Run," she hisses and wipes her mouth, listening to Sergio stumble down the stairs. But then she frowns. In a flash she's at the window, just in time to see an all too familiar form snap Sergio's neck. And before she could even turn the body is being dropped on the too clean floor of her room.
"Do we have to go through this again?" Klaus drawls behind her and anger boils in Elena's chest. She launches at him and is immediately pushed into the closest wall so hard the whole building shakes. His face glows in the dim light like on the night of the sacrifice and Elena bares her fangs at him, wishing desperately it had all ended for her that night. She claws at Klaus with nails and teeth and the core of her raging soul.
"Stop it, Elena," Klaus says in a low voice and her name sounds like a regret on his lips. But she's in near hysterics.
"You monster. You took everything from me."
He smirks, all compassion gone suddenly. "Not quite." And the wooden spike slowly descends into Elena's chest, making her gasp and smile with relief before she hits the ground with a small thud. Klaus watches her hair fall in that face he can finally begin to forget now.
"I upheld my part of the bargain," he says calmly and turns to the door. After a few moments Stefan walks in, his face littered with veins, eyes black and inhuman - he never even changes back to normal these days, Klaus thinks with satisfaction. And his smirk only grows wider when Stefan drops Damon's corpse on the motel floor.
