summary: everybody is dead and Bonnie wants revenge
It’s dark in the forest and night-time noises are at their peak, but Bonnie hasn’t been scared in a very long time. Fear is the prerogative of those who still have something to lose. She’s close, she can tell, the voices of all her ancestors are screaming in her mind, urging her to be cautious, to be smart.
But the hunger for revenge is stronger than blood or sanity.
She knows she should rest before the inevitable fight but she’s been searching for so long that now with her mark so close she can’t force herself to stop. The forest starts to clear somewhat as she’s coming closer to the edge and she can already faintly recognise the lights from the nearby village. She slows her steps somewhat and lets the spirits guide her in the right direction.
And then she sees him. Crouching on the ground, arms almost gently holding a barely breathing young man, lips tightly pressed to the white skin on the man’s neck. Bonnie can see blood and a hint of an eager tongue against the wound. She can pinpoint the exact moment the human takes his last breath and feels anger rise in her when he is simply dropped to the ground like a piece of trash.
“Hello, Bonnie.”
She’s not startled when she hears Elijah’s voice, she wanted him to notice her presence, but the hoarseness of his voice and his ragged look take her off-guard. He’s unshaven, his clothes are worn, and this human seems to have been his first meal in a long time. He looks like he’s been on the run for almost as long as she’s been on the hunt.
“I must say I’m surprised it is you,” he smiles easily, like he used to.
The ghosts in Bonnie’s head are screaming and pleading her not to speak to the silver-tongued devil, just kill and be done with it, but his smile infuriates her.
“Who else were you expecting?” she spits. “I’m the only one left.”
His lips twitch, like she’s an ignorant child.
“I meant Klaus.”
“Klaus?” she frowns.
“I’m glad it is you,” he says and unbuttons his shirt to expose his chest. “You can only kill me.”
