Fun Times

Dear Womb,

I know we've had our differences in the past, and I'm fairly certain we won't be best friends any time soon but you've been AMAZING this weekend! *hugs tight*

Love and kisses,

Kate

YES PEOPLE!!! I DIDN'T GET MY PERIOD WHILE MY FRIENDS WERE HERE AT OUR SUMMER HOUSE!!!!!!! *dances around madly* We went swimming in the lake both days and my body was totally cooperative and not the bastard it usually is! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! *bounces*

So... the weekend was great. We had a LOT of fun. I made fried stuff for the day they arrived (chicken, pork, vegetables I don't know the English name of, and potatoes - no, not the kind you get at fastfood restaurants, I prepared the slices the same way as the meat which prevents it from being too oily, *nods wisely*), they really loved it, you should have seen the boys DEVOURING it. lol It was awfully hot Saturday, even the lake felt like thermal water which sucked but we had a bit of a storm and really strong wind that night so yesterday was much much better. And there were HUGE waves and it was so cold when we came out of the water bc of the wind, I loved it. We ordered pizza and we played Activity in the evening, which is always epic. :)

Also, I've come to the conclusion that Balázs loves being a director too much. Granted he's developed so much during Hamlet and he has great ideas but he tends to forget we're a group of friends doing something we adore for fun and not a professional acting group he needs to lead. Sure, it's always good to have someone in control but I kind of miss the days when he still consulted us about what play we should do next. He didn't do it with Hamlet, and yes I did think he was an idiot even thinking about it, and yes I was very mistaken, and yes I did fall for the play even though I'd hated it for years before, but it would have been nice to actually ask us before he made the decision. (Ok, he did say we could veto it but I'm sure he was certain we wouldn't dare lol) So yesterday he just announced we'll be doing Midsummer Night's Dream.

I'm sorry, what are we? A new Shakespeare Appreciation Company or what? And if yes, can we please do Macbeth instead, I'd gladly give an arm for that thank you. But the Dream???!!!!!

I loathe the play, I know I know blasphemy and all but no, I'm not afraid to say I dislike a Shakespeare play. *is struck by lightning* I can see that it's a masterpiece, like all Shakespearean plays but it's still among those (many) that I fiercely dislike. And yes, probably bc it's a comedy - I'm reaaaaaaaaaally hoping Balázs will emphasise the un-comedy-like elements. Oh and I'm annoyed bc he has no idea who's going to play what except that he's Puck, which is a given, and he knows who plays Bottom, but that's it - he knows all sorts of stuff about the kind of performance he wants this to be, loads of details are clear in his head except what I find most important: the characters.... I'm not surprised, this is how his mind works, which is why he wasn't interested enough in Gertrude to give me enough help in playing her. He loves the intrigue, the political machinations, but the soul makes him uncomfortable (now less so than before Hamlet but still). He's such a little boy still.

Although he did say he wants to work a lot on Titania, and he did give me a look there but that might have been a coincidence. Then again, I really can't see myself as anyone else from that play - Hermia and Helena, no thanks... well, Hermia definitely not, I'm not pretty enough (and don't say I am bc I'm really not, it's not false modesty, objectively seen Hermia needs to be stunning which I'm not, and I'm relieved, bc I hate her most lol), Helena... hmmm, could be, but I really don't want to, I absolutely hate all that lovey-dovey confusion stuff around the two couples. There's nothing more boring than that. Hyppolita will probably be played by the same person as Titania, purely bc we'd need less new actors - which is obviously the ONLY BAD REASON to do it. Many have done this double casting and it makes sense to make the same actors play the Oberon/Titania and Theseus/Hyppolita couples bc they are in very similar roles in their respective worlds and it gives the actors but also the directors the opportunity to show brilliant parallels and contrasts but if you only do it to need less people you lose this and just fuck up spectacularly. Anyway... Those two women are interesting... or, well, at least in interesting situations. Hyppolita, the defeated amazon queen forced into marriage and Titania, the fairy Queen completely and utterly humiliated by her husband. They are both strong and independant women forced under the control of men, so in many ways their story is a tragedy... so yes, that could be made interesting I suppose...

You see what I just did there? We've only talked about it for 5 minutes yesterday, I don't know shit yet and I'm already trying to sink my claws into it. *rolls eyes* And if I don't get Titania/Hyppolita now I'm utterly screwed... damn... Then again we are 3 girls in the gang for next autumn now. One of the girls will be too busy for a new play and will only come back for our revival of Hamlet, and Mónika will obviously be too busy waiting for the arrival of her first baby (so exciting! and she finally dared tell Balázs, that was one big operation lol), so she can't even do Ophelia, which sucks, bc I really don't want to do it without her). And out of us three I think I'm the most likely for Titania, partly bc I absolutely always play the oldest/most mature woman. I'm just not right for young girls, which I hope means I'm NOT getting Helena either... *crosses fingers*

So anyway, that's what's new. lol This weekend was fun, I hope we can do it again soon! But now I have a couple of days alone, which is awesome too! :) *forces herself to work on fics*

life and other disasters, yay
