{recap} Sherlock 1x02 - The Blind Banker

Sep 21, 2010 00:51

Wohooo I’m finally done with my recap for the Blind Banker!!!!!! Already thought that might never happen! *g*

Somehow that was so much harder than the one for A Study in Pink! Not sure if that’s due to the episode or due to the fact that I’ve seen ASiP so often already or that I don’t love TBB as much but it really took me ages to put it together! *sighs*

But nevertheless here it is. Hope you'll enjoy! =)

Episode 2 starts with a girl (named Soo Lin) doing a traditional Chinese tea ceremony in a museum and a guy who also works there and clearly has a crush on her (and I for myself think he’s totally cute *g*).
So the girl goes down in the cellar or archive or whatever to work there alone till something scares the crap out of her and she runs away.

lame start of recap description is lame, sorry, don’t know how to put it differently =P

After the opening credits we see John and Sherlock both get into a bit of a fight. No not with each other what do you think, they'd never fight! Tz, really! No, John gets into a bit of a row with a chip and pin machine while Sherlock has a fight with I don't know who the intruder is.
John arguing with the chip and pin machine is just too cute, Sherlock fighting will never be anything but hot imo and I think it was too funny how John accused Sherlock of not having moved since he left *lol* little does he know.^^

Sherlock Holmes: You took your time.
John Watson: Yeah, I didn't get the shopping.
Sherlock Holmes: What? Why not?
John Watson: Because I had a row... in the shop... with a chip and pin machine.
Sherlock Holmes: You had a row with a machine?
John Watson: Sort of. It sat there and I shouted abuse. Have you got cash.
Sherlock Holmes: Take my card.
John Watson: You could always go yourself, you know, you've been sitting there all morning, you've not even moved since I left.

So Sherlock got an email from his old “buddy” from university (who’s a total slimey douche!) who needs his help as someone broke into the bank he’s working at and left a little message...
The part with creeper!Sherlock is too funny =D

Awefully short carride (still love those so much!!!!) followed by probably my favourite scene (at least in this episode^^).
Seriously the faces Sherlock/Benedict makes in this scene - priceless!!!! ♥

Ms Wintle: Hello?
Sherlock Holmes: Hi, um, I live in the flat just below you. I don't think we've met!
Ms Wintle: No, well, er, I've just moved in.
Sherlock Holmes: Actually, I just locked my keys in my flat.
Ms Wintle: Do you want me to buzz you in?
Sherlock Holmes: Yeah... and can I use your balcony?
Ms Wintle: What?

So of course Sherlock can use the balcony but all he’s able to find in the flat is Mr. Van Coon’s body.
They call the police and we get to know DI Dimmock who’s not exactly a fan of Sherlock, especially as he of course tells him that quite everything he thinks is wrong of course^^ (why exactly we don’t have Lestrade in this episode is a bit of a mystery to me tbh though I was happy to see the actor again *g*).

So after another encounter with the “lovely” Sebastian (he still isn’t more likeable or better likeable at all in this scene) and after seeing another man being chased by something we don’t see, we get to see that cute boy in the museum again who unsuccessfully searches for Soo Lin who myseriously seems to have resigned her job and went away of course he doesn’t believe this.
Also John is doing a job interview to solve his money problems which involves a lot of smiling and flirting *gg*

Meanwhile Sherlock is already fully in investigation mood, shutting everything else out as usual
[Watson enters]
Sherlock Holmes: I said "can you pass me a pen?".
John Watson: What? When?
Sherlock Holmes: About an hour ago.
John Watson: Didn't notice I'd gone out then?

also we get to see a bit of jealous Sherlock for the first of many times in that episode eh how John talks about his job interview =P
John Watson: I went to see about a job at that surgery.
Sherlock Holmes: How was it?
John Watson: Great. She's great.
Sherlock Holmes: Who?
John Watson: The job.
Sherlock Holmes: She?!
John Watson: It...

So after a lot of more investigating (somehow everything’s a long list of short scenes put together in this episode, at least that’s how it feels like for me while recapping, making it rather hard to recap shortly =/) and John getting arrested for vandalism or something like that (of course it wasn’t him but nobody’s believing him, poor babes *pets him*), John and Sherlock split up John heading to the police station to get the journalist’s diary and Sherlock talking to Van Coon’s PA (aka Benedict’s lovely gf Olivia Poulet *g*), they both end up at the same place where they finally find a clue what might be the symbols they found before…

so Sherlock takes John on another date, Chinese this time, without eating himself of course
so the connection between the deaths seems to be a smuggler ring
Sherlock then breaks into Soo Lin's flat only to discover he wasn't the only one there, poor John is standing in front of the door not let in again
well you better should've let him in and he could've helped you with the guy who tried to strangle you =P
and show off that he is he doesn't even tell John about it afterwards =D
John Watson: Any time you want to include me...
Sherlock Holmes: [chokes] John... John!
John Watson: Oh, I'm Sherlock Holmes and I always work alone because no-one else can compete with my massive intellect! [rings doorbell again]
[Sherlock chokes and groans after the attacker left him be, he finally comes out of the door]
Sherlock Holmes: [still a bit croaky]The milk's gone off and the washing's started to smell. Somebody left here in a hurry three days ago.
John Watson: Somebody?
Sherlock Holmes: Soo Lin Yao. We have to find her.
John Watson: How exactly?
[Sherlock finds paper from the National Gallery]
Sherlock Holmes: We could start with this.
John Watson: You've gone all croaky. Are you getting a cold?
Sherlock Holmes: [coughs] I'm fine.

So after talking to museum guy and finding out Soo Lin had also got a warning RAZ (the guy who got John into trouble with the police before) shows up showing them more symbols made with the same paint.
And we see John and Sherlock dancing cause apparently that's how you remember things easier... hm... (well Sherlock can come by to dance with me any time if that helps me remember stuff or not =P)
Sherlock Holmes: John, concentrate. I need you to concentrate. Close your eyes.
John Watson: Wh-what? Why? Why? What are you doing?
Sherlock Holmes: I need you to maximise your visual memory. Try to picture what you saw. Can you picture it?
John Watson: Yeah...
Sherlock Holmes: Can you remember it?
John Watson: Yes, definitely!
Sherlock Holmes: You remember the pattern?
John Watson: Yes!
Sherlock Holmes: How much can you remember it?
John Watson: Well, don't worry!
Sherlock Holmes: Because the average human memory on visual matters is only 62% accurate.
John Watson: Yeah, well, don't worry, I remember all of it.
Sherlock Holmes: Really?
John Watson: Yeah, well, at least I would, if I could get to my pockets! Took a photograph...

Finally the boys find Soo Lin Yao hiding in the museum and she tells them a bit more about the smuggler ring, which she was a part of as well when she was younger, and that “the spider” Zhi Zhu, her brother, will be coming from her as well, which he does before she can decipher the symbols for Sherlock and John

So after they finally convinced DI Dimmock that the murders are linked they start looking through all their books to try and decipher the code.
After working with Sherlock all night John finally falls asleep while at work the next day but instead of getting fired he even gets a date out of it (who’d have thought you’d be that sneaky John! =P But on the other hand I would’ve let him get through with it as well =D)

So Sherlock is really not amused hearing about John's date (you could even say he's jealous =P)
Sherlock Holmes: I need to get some air; we're going out tonight.
John Watson: Actually, I've got a date.
Sherlock Holmes: What?
John Watson: It's when two people who like each other go out and have fun...
Sherlock Homes: That's what I was suggesting.
John Watson: No, it wasn't. At least, I hope not.

So sneaky jealous bastard that he is he just invites himself in
and while John and Sarah enjoy the circus Sherlock has a little encounter with his strangler again...

Okay back in Baker Street they are still trying to decipher the symbols, Sherlock clearly would prefer Sarah to finally leave (though that might change a bit when she actually points out a clue he didn’t notice so far, must be really shocking for him =D)
So while Sherlock heads out to follow the clue when he runs into some (clearly not German!) German tourists, who by coincidence have the right book with them, John and Sarah wanna order in some food (cause as always the fridge is pretty much empty), and as Sherlock finally deciphers the code, John and Sarah have a not so nice surprise when they think their food’s coming…

Also look at that last picture! nobody can suggest that Sherlock doesn’t care for John after that look!!!

So the gangsters actually mistake John for Sherlock and as he of course can’t provide the info they want from him they threaten to kill Sarah with the same “trick” they saw earlier during the circus show…
Luckily Sherlock’s already to the rescue!!! And not one second too early…

I love the PA’s cry of shock when Sherlock tells her how much the hair pin is actually worth, also his smirk =D
Also breakfast in Baker Street!!!!!!! So much love for John’s jumper!!! The stripes really suit him well! =)

And in the end we see Shan communicating with a mysterious “M”… Moriarty again?!? who ever it is his rigorous and Shan isn’t surviving the conversation.

The end! =D

All the caps used were capped by myself.
Find A Study in Pink recap here.

Like I said this was a lot harder for me than the first one and I'm not actually pleased with it but I hope you liked the spam at least a bit! Next should be “The Great Game”, hope that won’t take me as long to pull together as this did… =D
