ok so yesterday i was pretty unhappy with how i did, but i've sucked it up and feel a lot better today.
hurdles were the first event of the heptathlon- i finally did all 10 hurdles in 3 steps (unless you know the race, you won't understand) which i haven't done in 11 months. so that was huge. so i ran a 15.98 and the next fastest time as an 18something. sooo i started the day with a 300 point lead on the rest of the pack.
didn't do so well from that point on. i held my spot at #1 for the first day, but slipped to third by the end of the second. on the other hand, the girls that beat me are both really good throwers and one is a junior, the other a senior, so i have a lot to be proud of.
i also broke my record, but i still didn't qualify for ECACs in the heptathlon, which i was pretty upset about. i missed it by 75 points, which really is not a lot, and it makes me even more upset because i know i'll only get 2 chances a year (if that) to qualify for big meets like that. that's one thing that people don't realize separate the multi events from the individual events: you don't do them every weekend for 12-13 meets. you have one or two chances to qualify, and if you don't make it, sucks for you. (and let me tell you: it does suck!)
i ended up getting heat exhaustion or very dehydrated or something, but by the time i was supposed to high jump, i was having trouble staying still (like if i stood or sat for a few seconds, i would end up swaying back and forth, i was very nauseous, had an awful headache, could not move quickly without stumbling, and needed help walking at one point). so i didn't score in high jump (in fact, i did pretty bad, but i was too sick to care). before all that, i managed to qualify for finals in the hurdles, so that was good.
today i woke up still not feeling great, but by the time i ran, i was just thinking "once you finish this race, it's allllll done!" so i ended up getting fourth and running my season-best 15.93 (only .04 seconds off my automatic timing PR from last year), and i consider this my biggest accomplishment of the weekend because i only practice hurdles once a week and i had already done 9 events, as opposed to most of those girls, who probably hurdle 3+ times a week and were mostly fresh for the race. so that was huge (:
blah blah blah. since all i did was track for the past 3 days, i have nothing to talk about. oh- haha- except that i got a huge medal for my third place finish and got to stand on a podium and have my picture taken... let me tell you: it was funny stuff! well that's the end of my first year as a heptathlete i guess. i'm still not sure if i'm going to ECACs or not... i'll make that decision soon enough.
i'm gonna head out and hopefully get to bed. i'm not going to school the other night because i need a TON of sleep. i warned my teacher that i wasn't going to be there, so it's ok. this weekend is liz's graduation number 1, so i'm really looking forward to that. other than that, not much...
bye bye folks! sorry for the very longwinded post.
