Firefly
Two guesses on which show I rewatched the preview of last night. I'd forgotten quite how much I loved Firefly.
Spoilers in the cut for Serenity. And firefly too, if you squint. It's more just general ranting =P
I think I love Zoe more on rewatch than I did the first time. Her and Mal's relationship is *so* good. I love her loyalty, and how they react around each other. Some of their scenes are so good to watch, with the lines they have together. I can't see a romantic link there, but their friendship is amazing. Did I mention she kicks ass? Because she totally does.
River steals favourite character I think, just because she's so quirky and fun, and I can't wait to rewatch Serenity again. I'm a David Lynch/Twin Peaks fan, I looove the quirk. She's so innocent too, I love that. Oh, and she's totally hot. Win.
Talking of innocent, Kaylee. I actually liked her less second time round watching. And I don't really ship her/Simon so that does nothing to improve matters. She is adorably cute though, and I don't get me wrong, I do like her, she has a complete sweetness about her.
Jayne. Absolutely steals second favourite. Along with Wash they are the two funniest characters on the show, IMO. The contrast between his loyalty to Mal and Zoe's is good. Actually can't wait to watch Jaynesworld, if that's the right epi title, again.
Wash. LOVE Wash. Don't even get me started on how much I cried for him in Serenity. His relationship with Zoe is so weird, in my opinion it works. I think they're really cute together. Especially in some scenes, like in the desert brothel episode where they are talking about babies while laying down a dynamite trail or something to that effect. He's awesome. His jealousy of Mal though brings him down a little. Zoe is clearly totally in love with you man, there's not point in being jealous.
Inara. Morena baccarin is hot, end of. So that pretty much makes Inara too. I think she comes off a little too smooth though. It works for her character, but idk, it just dulls me a little. Totally ship her/Kaylee though, my word. Inara/Mal? Ok but I'd prefer just friends.
Shepherd Book, not my favourite character but he suppliments the others well. I really like the fact Whedon make's him struggle with morals, and not make him go either one way the other. We don't really get to know a lot about him though, although there is to be a 3-part online comic on the matter written...apparently.
Mal. One of the best characters on the show I think, and possibly trancending just Firefly/Serenity. He's just *so* well written. Although again, the Mal/Inara stuff grates on me a little. Now if you say Mal/Nandi? You've got another discussion. (She's the head of the desert brothel played by the awesomness of Melinda Clark.) My favourite ship on the show bar none. Too bad she was only in one ep, she was fantastic. Sidenote for Castle watchers: Mal over Castle anyday. Anyone disagree? Thought not...

I think overall it's fantastic. Clearly otherwise I wouldn't be writing this entry; but I honestly do think it's really good. And when someone described it to me as a Sci-fi Western before I had seen any, I was like 'huh?' but it does totally make sense. The theme tune is amazingly awesome, and they have great costumes. *steals* I really hate that it was cancelled, up against some of the shows that are on TV now...it just doesn't make sense. I don't know how well Serenity did, and so sue me I can't be bothered to look it up right now, but I know that the possiblity of another film is extremely small as Whedon has said himself. But I'm still going to keep my fingers crossed.
I'm looking forwards to rewatching the rest. Although I'm intertwining it with my rewatching and obsessive notetaking of NCIS.
