Updating my LJ like a nerd in the library comp lab between classes. Chinese History let out early today and I don't have Postmodernism until 4, so here I am, torturing you with my nonsensical ramblings. But you're reading it, so who's to blame? ;)
Anyways, no, I have not been dead during the past couple months. It has just been an insane, insane semester. So much to do and literally not enough time to do it all. Between nailing down the class work for every course, going to work four days out of the week, trying to keep the house clean (no thanks to the roommates), and trying to spend time with The Boyfriend, things have been going at break-neck speed. I was also sidelined for a week in March with a nasty throat infection which everyone thought was mono. Turned out it was just a strong virus compounded by dehydration, but still, it was a total drag.
So...what to say? At this point, I'm doing fine. I'm a little spooked by everything I have to get done, but it will somehow happen. If I can pull off a 4.0 for this last semester, things should be fine. I'll keep my scholarship for senior year, get my priority registration, and life will be fine. All I have to do after is just keep my grades up (3.9 and above) so I can graduate Summa Cum Laude. But hell, confidentially, Magna Cum Laude is sounding just as good right now.
I think I promised a long time ago to give y'all an idea of what kind of classes I'm taking this semester. Well, here it be so everyone has a better idea of what I'm talking about.
History of Modern China--Good class. INTENSE, but a good class. I like my professor a lot, and I've learned a ton about Chinese history that was more or less glossed over in high school. We get a lot of information in the lectures, and I basically write my arm off trying to keep up. I have fun though, and my professor (Dodgen) likes to joke around and keep it light. I have a final paper (in addition to taking an actual final) due May 18 in that class; my topic: Beijing Opera.
Studies in Musical Genres: History of Rock and Roll--Very cool! Me and The Boyfriend have that one together. He tends to get a little hyper about the material (DUDE! I LOVE that song!!), but it's also kinda cute. It's a combination lecture/video class, and so far we're up to the early 70's; Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, The British Invasion of the Stones and every Eric Clapton band. Final paper for that class due May 2 on the influences and history of a rock musician or group. My topic: Possibly Dream Theater, but I have to get my teacher's (Nate's) okay on it.
Emergence of Civilizations--A good class, kinda like archeological anthropology. I like it. The professor (Purser) is very nice, and we have some fun in there. What I like most about the class is the length; an hour and 15 minutes. That's perfect for my concentration. My only gripes are that we're rushed on the homework and the grupwork can sometimes suck. I mean, really...is group work EVER good?
Postmodernism and Poststructuralism--I dread this class. It's profoundly hard. I love my professor (M'Panya) but sometimes, I really don't know what to do with what I've read. Mostly we get it clarified in class, but wow, it's a major challenge. Final paper for his class due May 11. My topic: the corset and it's postmodern implications (yes, it has a few...I just need to extend them to 7-10 pages.)
Internship--Me going to work. Eric signed it off as an internship just to get it out of the way. Final paper due sometime in May about what I learned at work.
And that's everything! Pretty crazy, huh? At least it seems that way to me. I am so looking forward to going home for the summer, working on the interior design of my Victorian gothic-inspired room, and just RELAXING.
Oh, before I forget..I have a fish! He's a betta (Siamese Fighting Fish to some), and his name is Ryu (rhymes with see you)--Japanese for dragon. His best friend is this carved dragon I put in his tank, so I named him after it. And yes, I know his proper name should be Ryuu with a long "o" sound, but I like the short "o" better. And he's my fishy, so nyah. He's so cute though, I really like having him around. *Fishy love*
Finally, I leave you with the first Amusing Thought of the Day in months:
What do you have when 100 lawyers are buried up to their necks in sand?
Not enough sand.
Alrighty, off to Postmodernism. Wish me luck, and love to all as usual!
