Third Memorial

Jan 12, 2009 09:58

I feel justified in putting everything else that's going on to the side for a moment to do this third memorial for my Grandma, because I would've anyway, like I have every year since she died. I can't believe it's been four years already. (The first year I didn't do a memorial.)

As you saw last year, for the Christmas holidays my mom's parents used to travel down to New York to spend them with us. Christmas Eve we'd spend in Brooklyn with Dad's family, but we'd go home that night and spend Christmas Day at home. My life was a lot simpler then.

But Easter we used to spend in Pennsylvania with Grandma and Grandpa.

Wisps of hair are finally starting to grow in. Thank God.

Let's keep the Third Reich jokes to a minimum, shall we?

Their house hasn't changed much.

Mini dictator.

I still have that rocking horse somewhere. It's real wood. It was a gift from Dad's brother and his wife.

As you can see, I started life as photogenic as I am now.

Don't let these photos fool you. Grandpa is not a kindly old man. He's like the Grand Master of Nudges (first definition. I believe it's pronounced with more of an "oo" sound.)

Raise the roof? WTH am I doing?

God, she was beautiful though, wasn't she?

In this photo she reminds me of an older Lucille Ball. Doesn't she?

I'm surprised I sat so still for such a ladylike game. Most of my playtime involved throwing things in the air and...I don't know, loud noises. But Grandma could charm a rabid pitbull if she wanted to. And you know something? For the first time EVER I see myself in her. Something about her profile, and her cheeks...look at my user icon, and then look again. Do you see it, or is it just me?
