20 Bucks
Had an interesting encounter today. I was en route to Best Buy to blow some money on CDs when I stopped by an Exxon on the way to get a soda. When I was getting ready to leave, a tough-looking man knocked on the window of my car. He was a big, black man who looked like someone you would probably want in your corner in an ally fight. With plenty of people around and broad daylight, I took my chances and found out what he wanted.
He claimed (no evidence of this obviously) that he was from Phoenix and came to Memphis for numerous surgeries. However, he spent most of his money on them and was supposedly needing money for bus fare home. With my conscience tugging hard at me, I gave him $20. He thanked me, pledged that he wouldn't use it on anything else like booze, and we went our separate ways.
I'll probably never know if his true intentions were as sincere as he stated. But if he had to beg for money, he probably needed it more than I did. (BTW, I did eventuallty make it to Best Buy)
