Summary: It's a dream. It has to be a dream because he remembers a lot of things -- Cobb's frantic phone call, saying goodbye to Eames at the airport, taking job after job without break -- but he doesn't remember how he got here, laid out warm and content in the grass next to Eames.

It's a dream. It has to be a dream because he remembers a lot of things -- Cobb's frantic phone call, saying goodbye to Eames at the airport, taking job after job without break -- but he doesn't remember how he got here, laid out warm and content in the grass next to Eames.

"This is a dream," he says, the words throbbing with the ache of the miles between them. "You're in Nepal right now."

"It doesn't matter," Eames murmurs in return, a small smile playing around his mouth. Arthur rolls onto his side to see it, pressing his front against Eames. He props his head on his hand, savoring the ability to study Eames' face, to reassure himself that he hasn't forgotten what he looks like. "Hello, darling."

"Hi," Arthur breathes. He reaches out and runs the tip of his finger over Eames' forehead and down his nose. Eames just lays there and watches him, eyes dark and serious. "I miss you."

Eames reaches up and hooks a gentle hand around the back of Arthur's neck and pulls him down, kissing the middle of his forehead, the lids of both eyes, and, finally, his mouth, soft and familiar. "It's only time," Eames whispers against Arthur's lips, eyelashes tangling with Arthur's.

Arthur sighs harshly, almost a sob, and buries his face in Eames' neck, pressing as close as possible, willing to climb into Eames' skin to keep him near. Eames wraps his arms around him, holding him safe and secure against Eames' chest.

"Eames--"

"Hush, darling. Just stay here with me," and Arthur melts against Eames' chest, exhaustion and loneliness sweeping over him. He wishes it were really Eames with him, wishes they weren't a world apart, wishes Mal hadn't died and Cobb hadn't needed him so, but wishing won't change a thing. So he settles in and lets himself have this, just for a little while.
