Bass black, to Treble White....

Last night, something happened.

Regardless if you were tuned in or not, one of those big moments happened, when people are reduced to no words, sighs, or just tears when asked "what do you think about tonight?"

For years now, when things get really crazy for me and I start loosing focus of the big picture, what really matters, when I start getting caught up in technology, websites, ecommerce, tech jobs, lifestyle... I head to the MLK Jr. monument near the Metreon for a recharge.

In '98 - '99 (the time when I first moved to NorCal) a few groups of SG newbies visited it together often.    I have some of the quotes plastered on mountaineering photos around my house for reminders.   Big, juicy, in your face truth which we should all review once in a while when needing recharging.

The two quotes in the this memorial that always kill me:

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."

that is HUGE.

...related to this, for Lila and I, last weekend while unsuccessfully trying to make our way to the Outlands GangBangOutsideBeckCrowdCrushFestival, I mentioned to Lila that I'd heard that Maya Angelou had commented recently that there are three situations in life which reveal someones real character and strength:
1.  How they handle Lost Luggage.
2.   How they handle a rainy day.
and 3.  How they handle tangled Christmas Lights ;)

I admit, I wasnt even strong enough to deal with mass transit issues that day, and we bailed, in poor form, retreating to Tommys' for Tequila and the company of friends.

onto number two:

"I believe that a day will come when all God's children from bass black to treble white will be significant on the constitution's keyboard."
-MLK Jr, San Francisco , 1956

Last night the world was watching to see Obama become the first black American to accept a nomination of the two major parties to become president of the US.
HUGE.     Chills went up many a spine.   I heard so many interviews from delegates who were old enough to have been in DC for The Speech.   To know that in our lifetime, this is possible, means a lot.

and today, regardless of politics, to see the GOPs VP choice-- knowing that either way, we are going to have a black man as the president of the most powerful nation in the world, or a woman VP-- today is a big day.

Its a rally time in CA as we all know.   The prop 8 marriage rights bill is falling behind in the polls   http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/08/28/MN6H12JGAJ.DTL&hw=marriage&sn=002&sc=981

And me, the ex- young republican, am fired up to see the potential swarming around us.

So i'll try better to keep the fundamentalist angry meth head militant psychos away from our best chances for change,
and lets all try to make sure that every 18 year old we know is registered (correctly), and is able to vote come November.

Bathin' in both the treble and the bass of life...  ;)
