Our apartment is small. It has no storage space. It requires furniture to be placed *just so* if you have any hope of getting everything to fit. Which means if you want to buy new furniture, well ... you're screwed.
And I wanted new furniture. Thus began the great home improvement project, which eventually spun so far out of control that I had to reduce my social committments and even drop World of Warcraft for a while if I was going to have any hope what-so-ever of getting it finished. (I'm a great procrastinator.)
You see, when we moved into the apartment, there were two rooms that weren't a kitchen, bedroom, or bathroom. One is 10x11, the other is 11x15. Because we spend so much time on the computers, we decided to make the 10x11 room the "living room" and the 11x15 room the "study".
Now, two years later, I got a hankering for real living room furniture. My futon pad is many years old, and should be replaced, and I was tired of feeling the metal bars of the frame when I sat on it. But if we got new furniture, we would have to swap the living room and the study.
Great Home Improvement Project
Step 1: Swap Living Room and Study
1.a Realize that you have books that you haven't unpacked since you moved in, and that they need bookshelves.
1.b Measure and find out that your current desks won't fit into the new study.
1.b.i Buy new computer desks.
So, a whole weekend was spent moving the current living room furniture into the old study, and assembling the new desks in the new study.
2 Move the settee into the bedroom, to make room for the now assembled comptuer desks. (6/3)
2.a Realize you have no room for the settee, and re-arrange the bedroom.
2.b Cover the settee with laundry. It hides the fact that the cushions aren't blue and white like the rest of the room.
3 Buy a larger kennel for the dog. (6/17)
The larger kennel is just exactly the right size to fit between the edge of my desk and the futon in the new study. It's not asthetically pleasing, but now the dog fits in it properly.
4 Buy new living room furniture (6/17). Arrange for delivery two weeks from the date of purchase.
Two weeks from date of purchase would be tomorrow, for those of you keeping track on a calendar. Now, did I actually spend time cleaning out the new living room so they could deliver the furniture tomorrow? Well ... no. They are delivering next Friday.
Kilteer would very much like a weekend off. Me too!
