Humane Treatment?

It seems like many people have lost perspective on animals, they want to give animals the rights that people have, they want to treat them like children when they're not. An animal is not a human. There showed up yesterday on my friend's list a post about a pup who had been stomped on by it's owner and then later they either turned it in or it was taken away from them and eventually ended up in a "rescue." Now this group wants donations to pay vet bills upwards of $2500 for the dog to get examinations and an MRI before it's treated- I believe the pricetag for later surgery was left out.

I suggested that the dog be left alone and when quality of life got bad to put the dog down. The response I got was "God forbid people help a random dog. I donated even though we've just spent thousands on our own dog. :( She doesn't have owners to foot the bill."

My reply: "Then if the dog is uncomfortable why not do the kind thing and put her down. Like you said, she doesn't have owners to foot the bill, she's basically a stray dog, there's a hundreds more out there, why should all this money be spent on her? Why not donate money toward medical care for people in need."

Response: "And because she is a stray dog she deserves to be put down since someass stomped on her? She doesn't deserve the chance for people to help her? I'm taking a break from you; I'm too upset to talk to you right now."

So I've been unfriended. Oh well.

There's a reason the US has a huge pet overpopulation problem. So many people insist on "saving" every little animal that was probably created in the first place because someone wasn't responsible for their animals- either because they didn't have them spayed or neutered, or they didn't keep a proper eye on them, are uneducated about animal care, or because they simply thought it'd be fun to have some puppies or kittens. One thing I hear that really makes me mad is somone wanting to breed their pet so that their kids can experience "the miracle of life." They never put any thought into what happens to those puppies or kittens after they get big and messy and demanding.

If it were up to me I'd empty the pounds and shelters, a .22 in the head is real effective, problem solved. Now all that money that was being spent on food, shelter, medical care, and staff to care for all those animals can be put to better uses- like more education about animal ownership and agriculture in general. Maype provide free spay and neuter clinics? Although, personally I say if you have a pet quality or companion animal and don't have the money to spay or neuter that animal you probably don't have the money to care for that animals other needs either.

Here's another response to the reply I made to the other person: "Um, wow. Why not put down poor kids, too? Geez. :("

Obviously it went right over their head as to the point I was making that a donation toward medical care for humans might be money better spent. In the next reply someone else made they've called me a villian. I guess a stray dog is too important. People any more can't seem to handle a practical viewpoint.

Oh yeah! And to whoever out there in the world keeps dumping off dogs and cats out here: I guess you think that leaving your animals on a farm is being good to them? That they won't starve to death? That the farmer is going to feed them? Or maybe you think a dairy farm will have lots of milk setting around for your kitty to lick up? Keep 'em coming. They make for good target practice.
