Moon are interesting things. Especially if you are a werewolf.
Here's a thought. According to the Harry Potter Lexicon, the Hogwarts Express leaves King's Cross at 11am on September 1st, arriving in Hogsmeade in the early evening.
In the Philosopher's Stone, Chapter Six: Harry peered out of the window. It was getting dark. He could see mountains and forests under a deep-purple sky. The train did seem to be slowing down. And: Perched atop a high mountain on the other side, its windows sparkling in the starry sky, was a vast castle with many turrets and towers.
On September 1st 1991, sunset was at 8.16pm.
Move forward two years to September 1st 1993, the year Remus Lupin started at Hogwarts. On that day the sun set at 8.15pm. The full moon also fell on Sep 1st in 1993. It rose at 7.42pm.
In The Prisoner of Azkaban, Chapter Five: "We must be nearly there," said Ron, leaning forward to look past Professor Lupin at the now completely black window. Then the Dementor comes on the train, and Lupin scares it off. They continue onto Hogsmeade, up to the castle, then after a chat with McGonagall, go to the feast where Lupin is introduced as the new DADA teacher.
Anyone see the problem? Lupin is on a nine hour plus train journey, during which he sleeps virtually the entire time, which is weird enough. He definitely hasn't taken any Wolfsbane, yet he remains normal throughout the train journey, the trip to the school, and the feast, all on the night of the full moon.
I'm sure someone else has thought of this, but I haven't seen it anywhere, and on the night of the "supermoon", I thought it was worth sharing.
And speaking of the supermoon, we went out to the Wairau Bar and took some photos of it rising over the sea.
Sunset first
