Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper? Let me check...

What was Leia thinking at that moment, anyway?

Here's an odd thought I had while not doing my homework: why does Leia act so flirtatious when a short stormtrooper shows up in her cell? I mean, her voice is practically sultry compared to her earlier scenes, and she has this real come-hither look.

Is she cracking up from the torture and the destruction of her homeworld? Is she trying to make light so she won't start freaking out about being executed? Does she realize that this really isn't a stormtrooper?

Or is it a cunning plan? Maybe Leia is gambling that this stormtrooper will be tempted, or at least confused, and therefore will be off his guard. Then she can steal his blaster, run for that garbage chute she spotted earlier, sneak from there to the hangar bay, steal a ship, and escape! It's a desperate plan, almost sure to fail, but it's the only chance she has...

Nah, probably not. Still, it's fun to imagine.

On the original starwars.com post, I added this EDIT: Wow, that generated quite a response! Who knew there could be so much to discuss (and disagree about) in this itty-bitty little moment? I'm not wedded to any particular explanation; I think there's many possible interpretations, and if you think about it, several could be true at the same time. Maybe they're all true... from a certain point of view ;)
