Vocab nitpick of the day, plus Caprica

Dear fanfic authors,

I know they are etymologically related and it's confusing, but you mean "ravished," not "ravaged."

Love,
Sunny (who is considering ravaging - not ravishing - the cookie supply)

In other etymology news, I just realized something about the new BSG spinoff show Caprica: so, the first Cylon is Zoe Graystone, right? And Zoe is the name for Eve in the Greek translations of Genesis. And the other avatar which may become Cylon #2 is Tamara Adama. So... the first two Cylons, who are literally the children of humanity (who knew they meant it that literally? and honestly, putting the minds of your disaffected teens into war robot bodies is just asking for it) but also probably the progenitors of this whole generation of Cylons eventually, are Adama and Eve. I C WHUT U DID THAR.

Also, they invented Catholicism! Zoe observes that she's made of three parts: a robot body, an artificial brain-chip-thingy, and a virtual avatar, which is "some sort of... what's the word?" Lacy: "Trinity." In BSG, of course, we have Adama the Father, Lee the Son, and Kara the Holy Ghost. Ron Moore must like this theme.

The other thing that had me cracking up was teeny little Willy Adama hanging out with his uncle's gang. Remember how Lee said they were just a gang in space? I WONDER WHY. Adama values personal loyalty to him over... well, anything, including being sober on the job, has pretty much no regard for rules he doesn't like (shutting down investigations when they threaten "his" people, arresting the President, allowing election-stealing under his watch, etc.), cajoles and guilt-trips people into doing what he wants ("A man isn't a man until he wears the wings of a Viper pilot" - poor Zak and Lee) when he doesn't just threaten them or lock them up, and pretty much totally justifies Lee's claim. I'm starting to wonder if Adama ended up in the Colonial fleet as part of a juvenile delinquency deal where he got to choose doing time or joining up.

And if we get that far in the timeline, I can't wait to see how Cavil de-aged Tigh and gave him hair.

battlestar galactica, writing, cylons, adama drama, pretentious babble
