There i was, just trolling through the 'net when I found this:
I had no idea . . .
So here is my SMVA2010 Nominated story: Never Forgotten
Disclaimer: Not mine.
He had never expected to ever experience it again; the bright blue eyes of his son full of love & trust. He had spent a good deal of time grieving for the world that wasn't, the Life that wasn't. He had put the loss behind him, but he never forgot. Not the first steps, first word, first day of school, or the weight of his son in his arms after that first breath. All the joys and sorrows of a life that never was; a son that had only ever lived in his mind.
He looked down at those bright blue eyes of his son, full of love & trust. The things he had missed: the first steps, first word, first day of school, the weight of his son in his arms after that first breath. His heart soared in anticipation for the joys and sorrows of a life that was just beginning. He may not have been there from the start, but there was not a force in the galaxy that could take him away now.
"You said I have a Kryptonian name too. What is it?"
He isn't being replaced, there is no way he could be. It is just another way of honoring the brother his son would never know, could never know. Another way of not forgetting those lost.
"Van. Your name is Van-El."
AN: Post SR, but inspired by "The Man Who Has Everything" from JLU. I totally love/hate that episode. Gah! It gets me every time. I've always thought that Jason's Kryptonian name should be Kon-El (aka: Superboy) why not, right? Then today, I misread a summery and was inspired to write this . . . thing.
