Happy Halloween to all those celebrating it. In Slovenia they're trying to introduce it to us as a "traditional" holiday which annoys me as I see it's mostly a way for merchants and pub owners to make more money. I love our February/March carnival, based also on history, with all the traditional rituals and carnivals all over the country. So I hope it never picks up, even though it probably already has among the younger than me.
Anyway, here in Slovenia we celebrate Reformation day today, in rememberance of Martin Luther and the Slovenian reformators. Even though most people (at least from my friends' circle) see it as one more day off before the All Saints/Day of the dead day, where everyone spends too much money on flowers who then fill bins two days later to show off to the rest of their family and relatives who also HAVE to be there, in my family we consider it very special. Our reformators are responsible for first printed books (also for schools) in Slovenian, the development of modern Slovenian as it is today and already in 1584 a translation of the Bible (200 years before the first Catholic translation), not to mention they translated the Latin text for religious services into Slovenian, thus helping the average person to understand mass better. Last but not least, the name "Slovenian" was first used as a common name for people living in this area, at the time divided among different regions of the Austrian empire.
I am not sure whether this means anything to anyone on my flist, but to me it's very important. And I am extremely happy 31st October is a national holiday in rememberance of these people, to whom I can also thank I can be translating today, with Slovenian being a language on its own and with the place it deserves (even though spoken by only 2 million people on this planet and some weirdos who decide to learn it lol)
I was trying to find a webpage with the history of Slovenian reformation in English, but apart from a few sentences, didn't succeed...sorry :(
Just wanted to share that with you guys :)

So thank you Primož Trubar, Jurij Dalmatin, Adam Bohorič and others.
