Tradition

I feel like its time for the obligatory beginning of school post, even though I rarely post now.

Schedule:
T/TH - 9.30a-11a - Expository Writing

Just by listening to the professor and looking at the syllabus, I'm not worried about this class yet. Basically, it feels like it will be all the writing parts of my four years of highschool English crammed into one semester. We're just writing papers, and honing our skills and such; types of papers include Compare/Contrast, Narrative, Pro/Con, that type of thing. And he could very well be expecting a much higher level of writing than I'm thinking he is, but I feel like its nothing to worry about, and that while, potentially time-consuming as far as assignments go, the class itself will not be hard.

M/W/F - 10a-10.50a - C/L for the C/I: Theatrical Adaptation

Looking forward to this class. I'm not quite a teacher's assistant, but also not a student. I won't be doing teaching, really, but more like leading discussion groups and helping students (who are all freshmen, as this is a required freshman seminar type of class) with assignments as well as just being a go-to/support person. I really like the prof and we'll be looking mostly at The Wizard of Oz in its various forms, including Wicked, the book and musical. Its actually one of the required texts for the class. Fun! As far as work goes, I'll be doing all the reading so I can help the students, maybe taking notes of a type, and leading out-of-class discussion sessions, which might be difficult to arrange, but otherwise, not too much of a push on my schedule.

M/W/F - 11a-12.20p - Directing

Looking forward to this class, though it will be very time-consuming as well as challenging. The main projects in this class include directing a two-person, 10 minute scene, as well as a 20 minute one-act later in the semester. And rehersal times for those are going to be very difficult to coordinate, as there are 7 people in the class doing the same thing. Not to mention that most of us will be involved in some way or another with the two full-length shows being produced earlier in the semester. It also involves extensive play analysis for the scenes/plays we're going to direct. So. Difficult class, but not in the usual way.

M/W - 1.30p-2.50 - Intermediate Macroeconomics

This will probably the most difficult class for me, subject-wise. We will be using Calc for most of the math, and most of the exam questions will be math problems. As a whole, I think I will enjoy/"get" macro better than micro, but I'm going to have to work my ass off to understand the content. I have a feeling I'll be spending quite a bit of time in my profs office working through the math. There will be a good deal of reading, and he's mentioned two things about that: !) the text is probably a little more difficult than most textbooks at this level and 2) he suggests we read the chapter before class, and once again after. I know thats not required, but it makes sense from a information retention standpoint, so I'll at least attempt it before I just give up.

In addition to my classes, I have the shows; auditions are Thursday, call-backs Friday. Obviously I can't tell that I'll get in either show, but if I don't I'll be working tech on it in some way, probably costume and shop stuff. I'm also in Student Assembly which meets once a week, and I'm honestly not sure about extra committment yet; I believe I have to "work" in the SA office for a few hours a week. Aaaaaand I want to get a work-study job in the theatre shop if I can. That will probably be a more secure form of employment, as I'll basically have Saturdays and Sunday mornings to work elsewhere. We'll see.

Thus ends my start of school post! Regards, dear friends.

Jack
