A guy at work quit or got fired because of me today. Sort of.

It is a common thing for us to throw ice at one another in the kitchen. Just tossing it at each other, its very playful.

So tonight, Jose Luis throws an ice cube on my drink try right before I'm about to go out. So I toss it back at him, playfully, and I toss it so it misses him by a long shot, and lands in the middle of the floor, not really near anyone. This other server Blayne is on the other side of Jose Luis, and even though the ice didn't hit him at all, or even land anywhere near him, he apparently thinks that I'm throwing it at him. So what does he do?

He takes a fistful of ice and chunks it at me, from across a distance of about three feet. And he throws it hard. Hits me right in the face, hits me in the eye, and on the bridge of my nose. It fucking hurts like shit, and I did nothing to him.

So you fucking hurt me? All right. So, just reacting, not even really even thinking about it, I pick up one of my glasses of water and toss the whole thing at him. Understandably, he gets fucking pissed cause he's all wet. And he starts yelling at me. "Why the hell did you do that?"

"Because you fucking threw ice at my face really hard, and it fucking hit me in the eye, and it fucking hurt!"

So we're screaming at each other, both of us pissed. And the managers walk in, want to know whats going on. And we try to yell our separate stories. One of the managers asks to see my eye. While he's looking, I tell him that I'm fine, it just fucking hurt like hell and its not a big deal. And I leave to go deliver my drinks to my table.

Aparently, while I was gone, the managers asked Blayne to clean up the ice water mess on the floor (which, in a restaurant kitchen, consists of sweeping the ice and water into the drain - hardly time consuming), he gets all mad, saying that we should both have to clean it up. Had I been in the kitchen at this point, I would have agreed and helped him clean it up; I know that I am responsible for the water on the floor. But he keeps refusing, saying that it wasn't his fault. So the managers tell him to leave then. Or he gets pissed and says he quits. Either way. He leaves shortly after that, and I never even glimpse him.

Its not like I would have even raised hell about it. I would have just been pissed at him, I wouldn't have complained or anything. And I know its not my fault that he didn't do what the managers told him to, but I still feel a little bad that he lost his job over something concerning me. I went and apologized to the managers after that, saying I was sorry if I caused a scene or whatever, but they kinda just brushed me off. So......whatever.

I think I shocked everyone in the kitchen, because I'm usually polite and nice to everyone (even to Blayne) and as helpful as possible. And I just sort of blew up, throwing water, and cursing, and screaming. But its one thing to toss ice at someone else from across the kitchen and another to chunk a handful of it at someones face from a short distance. The rest of the night, to make me laugh, Jose Luis kept running away from me whenever I was making drinks.

Anyways. My work drama.
