Fred smiled slightly as she passed the girl leaving Charles' room. Cordelia had mentioned who'd stayed with him but her mind was all jumbled with worry and the name escaped her. She mumbled a soft 'thank you' as she stepped past her and into the room

I felt another presence in the room. The meds still had me pretty knocked out, but I tried to shake them off. Just for a second.

"Fred?" It came out a little garbled, and as the darkness closed in again, I mumbled something else. I don't remember exactly.

I might have said "I love you". I hope it was hard to hear. I knew it wasn't what she needed from me right now. Even so, I moved my head a little, just so I could feel her at my neck...

And was out again.

"Gunn?" She was sure he'd shifted slightly and spoken even though she herself had started drift into that hazy state between being awake and drifting off to sleep.

She lifted her head enough to see his face, see if his eyes were open -- they weren't. Had he said something about love or did she simply imagine it?

Touching his cheek lightly she scooted back and nestled against his neck again to patiently wait.

I breathed better. It was easier. The bed was softer...wait, no it wasn't. Damn those machines. But something was better. I opened my eye just a little.

Fred was next to me.

That was all it took to make even a hospital feel like home.

Her stomach grumbled softly. She hadn't actually had a chance to eat any of the wonderful food she'd bought for dinner. Oh well, I'm not gonna let a grumblesome tummy keep me away from Gunn. I wasn't here earlier for him -- darn insane vampire -- so I'm here for the long haul.

She started to give him a reassuring squeeze then remembered she wasn't sure if he was broken anywhere so she settled for a slight pat on his chest where she rested her hand.
