Night had fallen once again, and not a moment too soon. If I had to sit and watch those people any longer I would have killed the lot of them...or myself. (Most likely them though ( Read more... )

(ooc - couldn't resist since Fred hasn't heard from Charles and she was hungry... )

Fred headed down the street toward one of her favorite dinner spots. She patted the cell phone in her jacket pocket, thinking about calling Charles to check on him but then figured it might be best to wait for him to call. After all, if he was in the thick of things she wouldn't want a ringing phone to distract him at a crucial moment.

Humming softly she continued along the darkened street hoping the soup du jour wasn't sold out.

After walking a few blocks away from Courtney’s Apartment building, I had ducked into an alley so I could watch the crowds of people pass. Four times already I had left this dark hiding spot, ready to make my move on one of these people, only to be stopped….by no one but---myself. With the forth victim, I actually did manage to at least draw a small amount of blood before tossing him out of the alley. It's not that my hunger had gone, but that my mind was elsewhere and I couldn’t focus on feeding. It was annoying and with each person I let go my anger grew ( ... )

Fred exited the deli with a paper bag full of soup containers and sandwiches. She'd bought a couple extra in case any of the others showed up at the warehouse. Talking mostly to herself as she walked she mumbled, "Of course, I'm so hungry I might just gobble it all up myself."

Chuckling softly she smiled and hummed to herself as she walked.

"Of course, I'm so hungry I might just gobble it all up myself."

"My thoughts exactly..." I hadn't meant to say that out loud, but anyway... I seemingly appeared out of nowhere and stood in front of the girl, looking her up and down. "You, you know my Angel."

Angel's circle of friends was small, but I've never seen this one. The new girl perhaps? That man who was with Angel in that alley before...he had said her name, but what was it? "You're the one all the fuss was about earlier?"

Fred gasped and stumbled back a step at the abrupt appearance of a dark-haired woman. She started to apologize for not watching where she was going when the stranger mentioned Angel.

Fred tilted her head and squinted slightly at her. "I do know Angel, yes... Wait a minute. Your Angel?"

A little knot of worry began to form in Fred's stomach. Most of the women in Angel's past were bad news with a capital B. B. This wasn't Buffy, was it? She always thought Cordelia referred to her as a perky cheerleader type with less than perfect fashion sense...

He wasn’t mine anymore now was he? Hasn’t been for a while. But it was an old habit that was hard to break calling him that. Not that I actually made a conscious effort to stop.

“It’s just a title... What would you have me call him then? ‘Boss’, perhaps? He is your employer is he not?” Her name finally came to me. “Fred...am I right? The new one.”

The girl was human... Angel did like his humans didn’t he? But he usually just saved them then took his leave. What made this one special that he asked her to stay around? He had that seer, who had been elevated to a higher being for a while. That guy who had been in the alley earlier looked pretty strong (by human standards). But this one? She looked as if she’d be a bigger burden than help in a fight.

The knot loosened a little bit. The woman didn't seem like a threat, at least not an overt one -- of course it was the covert ones that ended up biting you in the you know what.

"Yep, you're right... Angel's the boss and I'm Fred. I don't really feel that new though... it's been a few years now."

She sure seemed to know a lot. Maybe it was Buffy after all. Well, Fred definitely didn't want to tick off Angel's old flame or a slayer -- and since Buffy happened to be both...

"I'm sorry for being so stand-offish there for a moment. It was the whole meeting on a dark street thing." She wrangled the bag of food to her left hand and hip and stuck her right hand out for a shake. "You already know who I am obviously... so... you must be Buffy, right?"

"You already know who I am obviously... so... you must be Buffy, right?"

I nearly burst out laughing the second she said that and had to pretend I was clearing my throat a few times to cover it up. After that, just for good measure, I bit down on the insides of my cheeks till I was sure I had control of the situation.

Me? The Slayer? I wonder if everyone at Angel Investigations was this...ignorant. You'd think he'd educate them about his past....but no, he always tried to hide that. And now one of his own stood before me--totally clueless. But I'd not make my move...not yet. She might come in handy later on...

I meet the girls outstretched had with my own. My grip was probably stronger then necessary, but hey...I am the Slayer...Heh.

Rather than verbally answer her question, I simply nod.

"Right then...not a new member, but you are the newest. What is it that you do exactly? Not as a group...that part I know. What part do you play."

Fred winced a little at the grip.. but she'd heard that super-strength came with the slayer package.

"Me? I'm the science girl. I do the research-y stuff, going through books, seeing how things tick, finding new ways to make old stuff tick.. that sorta thing." She shrugged her shoulders and flashed her patent sheepish grin. "I know that's gotta sound completely boring to someone like you -- always in the thick of things, but, it's my thing, my niche."

She glanced down the street. "I guess you were heading to the warehouse. Cordy's directions must've been a little off. You just missed it." She pointed down the street. "It's just a couple blocks back that way. We can head back together. It's just me an Cordy there now but Angel'll probably be back anytime now."

She smiled and hefted the paper bag. "Are you hungry? I've got more than enough to spare."

She wasn’t wrong... Good thing I was standing up, or I may have just fallen asleep. (That might be a slight exaggeration....)

I smiled as she mentioned that she and the seer were the only two at this...warehouse of theirs. “Well then, guess I’ll just have to come with and wait to--surprise Angel when he gets in.”

Surprise...piss off...same thing.

”Are you hungry? I've got more than enough to spare."

I looked down at the bag she held and couldn’t help but marvel at the innocence behind her question.

“Famished--really, but...” I turn my gaze to the building she had just come from then looked back to her. “..I’m on a strict diet. Very strict.”

I finally step out of her path and allow her to lead the way.

"Oh... I see. Guess it's so you can stay fit and all. I'd go crazy if I had to actually watch what I ate."

Fred started heading back toward the warehouse but tried to walk beside who she thought was Buffy instead of walking in front of her -- it made it easier to talk.

It was only a short walk to the warehouse and Fred tried to fill most of the few minutes with small-talk about this and that. As they reached the warehouse Fred turned the knob and started to head inside saying over her shoulder, "You know, you can stop by anytime. It's not like you needed to wait for one of us to invite you in..."

Smiling she stepped inside, calling out to Cordelia, "I'm back.. and you'll never guess who I ran into -- well, actually you probably will since you're the one who told me she was gonna stop by..."

[I'm gonna post this last bit in a separate thread so Cordy can join on in, 'k?]
