The noises in this room. Who left on the television? "Fred," I tried to say "turn off the TV and come to bed." It came out "Red, offtv dom thiue". And dear lord it hurt to talk ( Read more... )

I sighed in relief as the doctor gave us the 4-1-1 on how Gunn was doing. I would have hugged him, but I managed to contain my enthusiasm. Once he brought up the word ‘family’, my enthusiasm was even easier to contain...

“He doesn’t have any family around per say...not in the blood sense anyway. He’s got...friends that consider him family...there--“ I motion to the card in his hand. “That’s his family”

He looks over the card for a moment then back to Dawn and I. “Have either of you...tried contacting them or should we--“ He trailed off and eyes the nurse behind the reception desk.

“No...no--I haven’t...but I-I will--now that I know he’s gonna be okay....”

Like I could keep it away from them if he wasn’t....?

“I’ll call, no need to bother nice nurse lady...” Though it kinda was her job, now wasn’t it? “ ...you just get back to the life savin--“ The rest of my sentence gets lost as a medical team rushes through the doors. The police officers trailing them barking out any info they had gotten about the victim who lay on the stretcher.

I caught ‘punctures to the neck’ and ‘severs blood loss’. The doctor who had bee talking to us politely excused himself and followed the mass into the ER

::I stood next to Nicole and just stayed quiet while listening to the doctor speak and let us know about Gunn. Least he had came to even if it was for a few moments. That is better then nothing. Then before I realized he was even done talking came with the rushing and about punctures to the neck and that kind of stuff before I snapped out of whatever little world I had wondered off into.I then lifted the still frozen ice pack to my face and looked at Nicole after the doc had walked back into the E.R.::

"Well least we know that things are better then they were when we first got here."

::I wasn't really sure what I should be saying right now. I mean ya it's good that we know something about Gunn but much as I hate to say it we are still just kids. We shouldn't have to deal with this by ourselves. We have been through enough of this stuff back in Sunnydale and there really wasn't a whole lot of this to deal with in Rome. Now it makes me think in the time I had know ways of talking to Nicole how much she had been through since we went opposite ways. I mean Cordy was in the coma that must have been hard enough on her. Sure she isn't the greatest family in the world but least its family. Listening to Nicole bout how AI was his family kinda makes me realize how lucky I am to have Buffy. She may not be the greatest family but she is mine even if it started as false. They are memories I had with her and I cant just forget them.::

I couldn’t put it off any longer. I had to call. Should have done so as soon as I knew it was Gunn in the turned over truck. Better late then never I guess. Flipping my cell phone open, I dial up AI’s number. Someone had to be back by now. Just so long as it wasn’t Fred...

“Not Fred. Not Fred. Not Fred....” I noticed Dawn giving me an odd look, but she did that a lot, so I didn’t read too much into it. “Not Fred. Not Fred.” Someone picks up. And look at that! It’s not Fred! I listened to the famous ‘Angel Investigations, we help the helpless’ line then...well, once I get started...watch out.

“Cordy! You’re not Fred! Good! Today I came by the office and noone was there, but then Spike popped in-literally. Then he went away without even saying bye...it was rude. After that some weird girl, Dawn and myself all went to McDonald’s then we went on a really awkward and pointless drive around town and we came across a car accident. It was bad...beyond bad even. Jaws of Life bad! But that weird girl...she helped in the getting him out by pulling a door off its hinges....it was weird, hence why I call her weird girl. And now Dawn and I are at the hospital. But he’s--okay.”

Yes, I realize I never mentioned who the he was. I knew Cordy caught it too. She asked if Dawn and I were hurt...

“We’re fine. It’s Gunn, but they said he’s okay...”

After my greeting, I couldn’t get another word in with Nicole talking a mile a minute. Not that I even tried to. I’ve been around her long enough to know you just have to wait her rambling out for the point at the end.

”But he’s-okay.”

Voila, we’ve reached the point. I was gonna ask who the he was, but I didnt have to...

It’s Gunn, but they said he’s okay...”

I didn’t say anything for a moment...neither of us did. Then she continued. “They said he was stable. He was up for a short while then he went back to sleep.” She paused once again. “I’m not leaving till someone else gets here.”

I nodded even though she couldn’t see it. “I’ll...be there soon. Have Dawn call her sister if-“ I’m cut off as she tells me that it’s already been done. “Ok then...good. See you when I get there.”

She’s the first to hang up, then I do the same.
