Andrew walked over to Dawn's house. She had said something about wanting to hang out that day, so he said that he'd stop by. Life had been a little busy lately (of course, it always was busy), so he wanted to take a little time to just hang out with an old friend. When he reached her front door, he knocked on it.
The door swung open immediately, and Dawn cutely grabbed him by the hand, pulling him in quickly. She wore simple jeans and a pink, snug long-sleeved shirt with a star on the chest. "You. You are here to put an end to the horriffic, tedious boredom that has been my day."
Andrew laughed. "I'm glad that you have such faith in me," he said. He moved so that she could shut the door behind him. "Has your day really been that bad? I mean, you did at least leave the house."
"True, but school? Does NOT count. Not a darned bit." Dawn just plopped herself down on the sofa, curling up with a big grin. "And how's your better half? Haven't had a chance to talk to her in school the last few days."
"Cassie's doing good," Andrew said, sitting down beside her. It was great to have the tension from last year gone. Now they could just relax around one another. "But I'll give you that, school really does not count."
"It's funny though... I noticed Gwen was kinda... not herself today. Sometimes I'll talk to her just to laugh, because she always has some ignorant comment to make, but she just kinda mumbled and shuffled off." Dawn pouted, as though every form of entertainment she had was being taken away. "It's like the gods are conspiring to bore me."
"I doubt that highly. Wouldn't the gods have more pressing matters, like...making volcanos explode or something cool like that? I'm not sure if 'boring Dawn Summers' really beats out volcanos, but no offense."
"Are you kidding? I'm WAY important to the gods." Dawn gave a cute, indignant huff. "I might fall slightly behind like, saving small children or creating life, but I'm way above volcanoes."
"Right..." Andrew laughed. "Anyway, it's not like my day was all full of excitement." Actually, his day had been mundane, and it was kind of nice. Being an X-cutioner was a tiring job sometimes.
"We should plan a double-date soon. Like, reaaaal soon." Dawn was thrilled about this prospect, actually. "I'm kinda-sorta seeing someone, finally. And we could go out without me feeling like a third wheel."
"Seeing someone? And why was I not informed of this? This guy needs to meet best friend approval." Andrew tried to look disapproving, which, on him, looked like a five-year-old peeved at his toy, so not scary at all. "Who is he?"
"His name's Mari. He's an exchange student at the High School. He's cute, and sweet, speaks adorably broken English. And you're required by Dawnie Law to be nice to him, lest I show Cassie how easily I can smack you around." She gave a mockingly serious nod, and winked. "We only got serious in the last week or so, and even THAT isn't too serious... we're like... just kinda starting to think of each other as boyfriend and girlfriend."
Andrew had met Mari once. He seemed like a decent enough guy. Well, of course, he could be hiding behind that innocent 'I don't speak good English' facade, "We will have to do this double date thing soon, then."
"And with any luck, neither myself or Cassie will spaz out and trip over something, thus giving the guys embarrassing thigns to laugh about."
"And what, like I won't have a spaz attack myself?" Andrew asked. "We are the rulers of spaz land, the three of us. We're like a trifecta or something. The Trifecta of Spaz." It kind of had a nice ring to it.
"Very true, but you've semi-conquered it. Most of your spaz-ocity is spoken. All you gotta do is shut up and nobody would be any the wiser." Dawn knew that nobody in town was likely as clumsy as she was.
"All a well-formed ploy to fool you," he said. He just took great care when he walked or moved anywhere, usually. It gave jocks a few less reasons to notice him as he walked by. Of course, Larry, the usual tormenter, had eased off lately.
"You're quite devious, Mr. Wells. One would be wise not to cross your devious path." Dawn snickered and sat back curling her legs under her.
"I have to be, Miss Summers," he replied, relaxing back into the couch as well. "I can't let others know my true plans for world domination." Then, comically, he covered his mouth as if he didn't mean to reveal it.
"Aha! I knew it!" Dawn proclaimed, finally bursting into giggles.
Andrew laughed as well. "I'm terrible at being an evil mastermind, aren't I?"
"Yeah. In terms of evil-ness, you're way closer to being like Dark Helmet than you are to being Darth Vader." Suddenly, she pictured Andrew in Spaceballs and almost cracked up.
"Well, now I know my costume for next Halloween," Andrew said. "I'm a better evil mastermind than Dark Helmet, though. Chipmunks are better at it than him."
"No way." Dawn gave a silly little smirk there. "You'd totally go Ludicrous Speed."
"I would not! Ludicrous Speed is just...ludicrous! That's where it gets its name!" Andrew responded, still laughing a little.
"Now... I tried not to ask, but curiosity is killing me." Dawn furrowed those thin eyebrows and snickered. "How's Warren handling being a kept man?"
"He seems to be handling it pretty well," Andrew said. "Of course, I guess that means he found the right girl who could tame the wild beast."
"Well then." She laughed, just trying to picture Warren with someone who could actually handle him. "She must be.... an interesting person."
"Well, she can shoot fireballs from her hands, so I guess that she could always zapp Warren in the butt with one if he gets too...interesting," Andrew told her, smiling.
And at that info, Dawn arched a brow, and stifled a snicker. "It reallllllly takes all kinds in this town, doesn't it?"
"Well, no one in this town is normal, don't you know?" Andrew could raise demons and help push fire back, so he couldn't even claim to be normal himself. "Actually, I think my film teacher is a mutant, too. I'm convinced I saw her get shocked by an electrical socket from across the room once."
"A mutant? Get out!" Dawn looked stupidly excited at that news, actually. "So... any chance we could get Wolverine out here to go snikt-snikt on some demons?"
"I know! It's wild, isn't it?" Oh, Andrew had been tickled pink at the thought himself. "At this point, I'd believe just about anything, really. Wolverine would make an awesome demon killer though, wouldn't he?"
"I think I'm the only normal person left." Dawn gave a little sigh there. "Too bad I can't grow like... 50 feet tall or something ridiculous like that."
"Or become a centaur. That would be pretty cool, too," Andrew said. "Sometimes it can be good to be normal, though. Less drama."
"So how's Cassie handling everything?" Dawn had been worried about the girl truthfully. To be the same age as them, but with all the stress of being a senior? Yikes. "I know she's been getting picked on and stuff..."
"Well, obviously, she's not thrilled about being picked on," Andrew said with a sigh. He wished that he could do more for her, but, other than hiding her, there wasn't much little Andrew could do. "She seems to be ok, though."
"I feel like I've sorta fallen out of touch with everyone, really." She let out a soft sigh of discontent, knowing that it's really her own fault. "Honestly, other than you and Cassie, I don't really make any attempts to befriend anyone."
Andrew smiled at her. "Well, maybe you should give it a try. Plenty of non crappy people at the school now. At least with all the demons and stuff, Sunnydale is starting to attract a few decent people with it."
"Check you out, 'Drew..." The younger Summers girl gave a lopsided grin and giggled quietly. "Never thought I'd see the day when you were the one telling ME to get out more..."
He pondered that for a moment. "That is kind of weird, isn't it?" he asked, laughing a little. "Still, I'm not wrong, am I? Getting out wouldn't kill you." Andrew really had changed from the socially awkward nerd he had been last year, by a long shot.
"I will, please, trust me." Dawn tried her best to not look annoyed. Her friend was only looking out for her, she reminded herself. "I just... I have to do it on my own time, you know? I mean, right now, my main concern is getting things back to normal with you and Cassie, and spending time with Mari."
"I know, and take your time." At least she had started meeting new people with Mari. That was definitely a good start in her favor, in Andrew's opinion. "I'm just saying, you know?"
With a little nod, Dawn ruffled his hair and smiled. "I know." While they still acted like total dorks from time to time, this type of conversation reminded her just how much they'd both grown up over the last year.
