He shook his head. "I mean, maybe if we were still in Cleveland, I could understand, but..."

She took his hand with her non-burnt one. "I like you Nick, no matter where we are. I've liked you for a long time now, it's just real hard sometimes to tell whether you like me at all. And I know we didn't start out under the best of circumstances and all but... being with you is the only thing that means anything, you know? In all this mess... it's what keeps me grounded. It's what makes it all worth while."

He sighed and combed his fingers through his hair. And God help him, she was a very pretty woman. Who was half his age, he reminded himself. Young enough to be his daughter. He grimaced. "I'm just not sure about this."

Jolee nudged his shoulder with hers. "But then if you do think 'wow, yay! let's get with more of the kissy' then we know we've got something special and it might make us both a whole lot happier."

When she saw that he was following, she traipsed down to the end of the hall, and stood under the mistletoe she'd strategically positioned in the archway.
She shifted from foot to foot and waited for him to join her, too nervous to say anything.

"Last chance to change your mind," he warned her, "no going back after this..."

She put her arms around him, closed her eyes, puckered her lips and leaned in, hoping he'd do the rest.
She hadn't had a wide variety of kissing experience.

"Oh Nick," she murmured softly, her knees feeling weak. "Please..."

"Uhm. That... that what you wanted?" he asked softly, still standing very close to her, close enough that he could smell the warm, clean scent of her body.

"Well..." she said, a bit heady from the rush of emotions. "I don't know... have you made your decision? Maybe we should, y'know... do it again. Just to be sure."

She nearly bolted off to the kitchen to salvage dinner. "Oh, heck with it- that's why God invented the microwave anyhow," she said, changing her mind about the food and pulling Nick closer to her to take the lead this time.
She kissed with more enthusiasm than skill, but her feelings were clear.
