Making Merry

Who: Alex and Frankee
Where: their new apartment in Whitetail Grove
When: December 22, 1998

Alex usually wasn't into the whole holiday - the religious significance made him nervous. This year he felt a little better about it, primarily because he had a gift for Frankee and that made him happy. He'd wrapped it carefully in colorful paper, and placed it under the tree.

Frankee was relieved to not be spending the holidays with his family. It was usually a strained affair that involved one of his parents getting stupid drunk and saying something awful, then no one speaking to each other until the new year. This year though he'd stayed in Sunnydale, wanting to spend as much time as possible with Alex. He's bought him a present, and was super excited about Alex opening it

"You know... it's about that time, isn't it? I mean, okay, it's not exactly Christmas yet.. but it's close enough, right?" Alex said, the presents sitting under the tree making him a little antsy. "Besides... we're grownups. We can decide when we open our own presents, right?"

"I reckon Christmas is when you want it to be." Frankee said, far too eager for Alex to open his present, and unable to wait any longer. "So I say we have it now, as well as later, and have double the Christmas fun."

"Sounds good," Alex said, and hurried for the tree to give Frankee his present. "I really hope you like it..."

Frankee took his present and couldn't help but examine it before opening. He liked to see if he could guess what someone had got him before opening, but this time he had no idea. It seemed small, square-ish, and kind of made a little chink-chink sound when shaken. Frankee began to cautiously remove the wrapping paper, not sure of what would be underneath...

Inside was a jewlery box, and inside the jewlery box was a forged silver medallion. It looked a lot like this:

"Wow..." Frankee said as he took the medallion out of the box. "This is amazing."

"I think it's special- I saw it in a window, and I thought you should have it. I don't know what it does yet, but it does something," Alex said. "It feels good when you touch it, so don't worry- it's not cursed or anything."

Frankee felt speechless. "Thank you, so much." He said, meaning more than he could express in words. He put the medallion on, and it felt right, like he should be wearing it. He liked that. Frankee went to the tree and dug out the present he had bought Alex. IT was a funny shape, but only because he'd wrapped two presents into one package

Alex shook the present like he'd seen Frankee doing, but he could only really determine that there were two things inside. Too excited to wait longer, he tore at the wrappings.

The present was divided into two parts, one larger cube white box, and another which was flatter, and looked sort of book shaped. "Open the bigger one first, that's the slightly silly present." Frankee said.

Alex laughed, liking it already, 'cause silly usually meant fun. "Okay," he said, and opened up the larger box.

Inside the box was a magic eight ball. "I figured that occasionally you might need an excuse for someone or something else to see the future or make a decision, and this seemed to be a reasonable idea." He said, feeling a little daft.

"Oooh...." Alex shook the ball, and concentrated as he asked a question mentally. The little window showed 'Without a Doubt'. "Neat!"

"I'm glad you like it." Frankee said, relieved. He almost asked Alex what he'd asked the eight ball about, but refrained. "The other present is a bit more personal." He said. In the box was a leatherbound journal, dark green in colour with an intricate celtic knot pattern embossed on the front. There was a button in the front cover, which a leather thong had been twisted around to fasten it.

"I thought having a journal might be useful, in case anything pops into your head and you want to write it down." Frankee said. "It's ringbound, so you can add more pages, and pull out those you don't want anymore."

"Oh wow... it's really pretty," Alex said, and ran a fingertip over the embossed pattern on the front. "I love it..."

"I'm glad you like it." Frankee said, genuinely pleased. "I saw it and thought of you."

Alex set the presents aside and hugged Frankee. "This is the best Christmas ever."

"Definitely" Frankee said, hugging Alex back.

"I hope we get to have many more," Alex said, tucking his head under Frankee's chin and curling up to cuddle.

"Me too. I'm so glad you found me." Frankee said, settling into the snuggle, and letting out a deep sigh.
