Who: Iris and Ariel
Where: The Espresso Pump
When: December 9
While, for the obvious vampiric reasons, Ariel loved living in Sunnydale, for reasons of having nothing ELSE to do, she hated it. The 14-year old loved the typical things most girls her age did: shopping, concerts, etc. None of which could be found often in this town. Which meant that she was stuck, again, sipping hot chocolate at The Espresso Pump. She wore a simple red skirt, with white kneehigh stockings, a black flowered blouse, and a black beret.
Iris, exhausted from another day of dealing with wedding vendors, was silently contemplating dragging her fiance off to Vegas for an elopment when she walked into the Espresso Pump in search of some caffinated delights. She was dressed in a pair of jeans and a long sleeved purple shirt. After grabbing her overly sugared drink, she took a seat at one of the tables.
Her eyes finally landing on Iris, Ariel recognized her after a few moments, and grinned widely, silently walking over to Iris' table. "Um... excuse me, ma'am?"
Iris looked up at the girl. She was pretty sure she hadn't ever been called a m'am before, but she'd let it slide, just this once. "Yes?"
"Alright... this is gonna make me sound like the world's biggest tool but... I have NO clue what your name is, but haven't I seen you at The Bronze with Patrick McConnell?" Ariel had an impish grin on her face, rocking on her heels.
"Yes, he's my fiance," Iris said. "I'm Iris Phillips...well, soon I'll be Iris McConnell. Are you a fan of the band?"
She nodded and dug into her purse, pulling out a copy of Daylight Dies' new CD. "I bought it the day it came out... would you think I'm a jerk if I asked you to have the band sign it for me?"
Iris smiled at her. "No, I can get them to do that," she said. "Why don't you have a seat so that I can get your name and stuff from you so that, when I can get them all together and sign it, I can get it back to you?"
"That would be great..." Ariel sat down across from Iris, hanging her purse over the back of her chair. "I was never really into metal that much until I started watching them at The Bronze. Pat and Jack are just... how do guys end up that talented AND gorgeous?"
Iris smiled. "They're just lucky like that, I guess." She was used to other people calling Pat gorgeous by now. "Not much more to it than that, I suppose."
"I'm so jealous of you... " Ariel giggled and blushed. "Not in a psycho way... just... wow, you're SO lucky."
"No, I understand," she said. She had actually been in a similar situation with Pat once, when he was with his former fiance. "I think I am pretty lucky to be with him."
"What's he like? I mean, the whole band is great... but I've had the biggest crush on Pat and Jack..." She felt it. The stupid, childish words flowing from her. And dammit, she couldn't shut herself up!
"He's really sweet when he's off stage," Iris said. Of course, it didn't take a lot for her to gush about Pat. She drove her own friends crazy talking about him. "A real softie. Of course, he'd be mad if he knew I was sitting here ruining his stage image." She laughed.
Ariel just seemed in awe, a mixture of envy, admiration, and interest. "Oh... I'm Ariel, by the way. Ariel Harrington."
"It's nice to meet you, Ariel," Iris said, offering her hand. "I know that Pat likes to keep in touch with his fans. Would you ever like to meet the band?"
"Wow... you mean that? I'd absolutely love it!" Then... she couldn't help but laugh and blush. "Of course... I should warn ya, I'll probably end up drooling all over your fiance. Nothing personal."
"You can't look more goofy than when I first met him, I promise," Iris said with a laugh. "I only prayed at the time that I didn't come off like a groupie. I'd love to introduce you, though."
"I read an interview with them where it said Pat's the only one in the band who's taken." Ariel started to blush again. "Can I just say that never in my life have I more regretted being so young?"
"He is. I'm not sure that Jack has ever committed to anything longer than...well, being in the band, actually," Iris said with a laugh. "How old are you?"
"Fourteen." The girl said in a low, almost unintelligable mutter.
Well, that was young enough to even scare off Jack...at least, she was pretty sure of that. Who knew with him. "Well, you'll be old before you know it. Trust me on that." Getting called m'am was unnerving.
"I'm at The Bronze all the time... I guess you can just find me there to give it back... the actual CD is in my discman right now anyway." Ariel felt finally good about something other than her obsession, and she liked it.
"Sure, I can give it back to you, there." Iris was out with Pat all the time, either at his gigs or with him when he scoped out places to watch other bands. "I'll make sure that they sign it for you."
"I heard Pat used to be a teacher at my school!" The young girl cursed under her breath. "Again, with being juuuust too young to have missed all the cool stuff."
"Yeah, he taught English there last year." Of course, he quit because he was once upon the time engaged to a student there, but Iris didn't like to think about that girl, even if her taking off gave her the chance with Pat that she was secretly dying for.
Of course, the girl had other questions, but no way in HELL was she going to ask the man's future wife certain things. She'd probably get beaten up for those ones. So she decided to not be a jerk, and actually talk about OTHER things. "Wow... you have really nice eyes."
"Thank you," Iris said, smiling at her. "You have very pretty eyes, too. They're very blue." She doubted that a fourteen year old wore contacts, but you never knew in this town.
"I lucked out, really. I look exactly like my mother. We get mistaken for sisters sometimes." Ariel smiled, surprised Iris was being so talkative to a girl so much younger.
"That's nice for the both of you." Well, she wasn't sure how good it was to be mistaken for older in this town, but what could really be done. "I'm sure your mother likes it."
"Oh, she loves it." The girl rolled her eyes. "Especially when she thinks that means it's alright to try to hang out with us when my friends are over."
"That's never too much fun." Iris was lucky in that her mother never did that. No, she had three brothers that liked to scare off dates.
"We should have a drink together at the Bronze sometime." She realized that it probably sounded like she was trying to weasel her way in, and corrected herself. "Just us, I mean. Like, when you're there by yourself."
"Sure, that sounds good." Iris thought about it for a moment. "Of course, you'd be drinking soda. I hear they're getting strict on IDs lately."
"Well... The Bronze is, at least." She smirked, thinking that she'd be devastated if her 'other' hangout ever stopped accepting her fake ID.
Iris kind of wondered where else this girl was hanging out, but didn't ask. "The owners are getting tighter with that." She had heard Meredith complain about that once.
"As long as The Ivory Whites keeps taking the ID I have... I'm perfectly fine. I don't drink anyway." The girl blurted out. She wasn't exactly afraid of Iris reacting badly.. most people didn't even realize what the club WAS.
"The Ivory Whites? Is that a club out of town? I've never heard of it." Of course, Sunnydale had exactly two clubs, so it wasn't like she wouldn't have heard of it otherwise.
"Nah, it's in town. Just a little out-of-the-way place." She smirked and shut up. Iris would probably pass out if she knew what went on there, and what Ariel had done there regularly.
"It must be out of the way," Iris said. She had never heard of the place herself, which really only made her want to look it up.
"Let's just say your man's band probably won't be playing there anytime soon." Ariel damn-near burst out laughing at that one, and truthfully, talking about it made her want to go again tonight.
Iris couldn't help but notice that the kid was a little weird, but blamed it on her possible home life for right now. Besides, maybe the club just didn't do live music? She looked down at her watch. "I need to get going. I'm supposed to be meeting Pat soon." She smiled at the girl again as she stood up. "I'll see you at the Bronze though, right?"
"Yes! I'll be looking forward to it!" Ariel replied, smiling sweetly.
"I'll make sure that I get the guys to sign this for you, too." Iris waved to her. "I'll see you later, then."
