When: Friday night, after
this post Dot had fretted the whole trip over. She had paced while they were figuring out where they were supposed to be going once they got there -- she couldn't focus enough to keep track of all the hallways they went down and the turns they made. The walk took forever, but when they finally stopped outside a room that looked just like any other room, she couldn't bring herself to just go on in. She stood outside in the hallway, trying to relax.
After what seemed like a lifetime, an attendant finally walked out, and looked to Dot, stuffing his hands in his pockets. "Name?"
"Dot. Dot Champa." Dot resisted the urge to peer around him into the dim room beyond. "Is, um, is she okay?"
Seemingly ignoring her question, the attendant looked at a piece of paper he was holding, then looked at the girl again. "Alright. You're one of the two people permitted in there. Go ahead. She's awake, but barely. Try to make sure she stays calm. She's got a lot of stitches."
Dot nodded, biting her lip. She tiptoed into the room, trying to make as little noise as possible. Looking around, she was glad that there wasn't anyone else in the room right then, because she had to suddenly struggle not to cry. She stood by the bedside, still not trusting herself to speak. She reached out a hand and brushed Satsu's hair away from her eyes.
Satsu opened her eyes as best she could. The sedatives were still kicking her ass, but considering the pain she'd be in without them, it was a nice trade. She weakly reached her hand out, forcing a small smile.
Dot took the outstretched hand and squeezed it, gently. "Oh, just look at you. Some supergirl you turned out to be..maybe saving the world isn't your cup of tea and you should find a quieter occupation." She smiled again, trying to project reassurance she didn't quite feel.
"S-shush, you." Satsu would never admit it, but Dot's words hit her hard. She had never felt so useless in her life. "Sorry... d-don't mean to worry ya..."
Dot shook her head, once. "No, I'm sorry. That was out of line. I know how much it means to you. I'm just ..over my head, here. I can't do what you do, but I know it needs to be done and I know you love to do it. I just ..well, I worry, you know?"
"I'll b-be fine." Satsu silently thanked every god she could think of that her wound was currently covered with bandages and a small sheet. If Dot could see the sheer amount of damage, she'd likely have kittens. "Someone's gotta... be here to love ya... beside those two boys..."
Dot nodded. "You better be fine, or I'll have to finish what somebody started, you hear?" She squeezed the other girl's hand, lightly.
Satsu nodded weakly, and gave a light squeeze again. "Don't leave me?" Her voice sounded every bit as weak as she felt. "So scared..."
Dot squeezed back and grinned, weakly. "Hey, I'm supposed to be the scared one, remember? Don't think that you get be the supergirl and the scared one just because of some itty papercut, okay?"
"D-Duly... noted." Satsu again forced a smile. She knew that while she was injured, she had to be strong lest Dot fall apart. "I'll be... up and at 'em again... in no time."
Dot smiled, nodding. "That's the spirit. They're going to take good care of you in here, I'm sure." She'd noticed that there was another chair in the room, so someone had probably just been here. "I'll come by as often as I can, okay? Visiting hours or no visiting hours, let 'em try and keep me out."
"I told 'em... to let you and Ms. Lee in at any time." For the first time, Satsu felt sure she knew what was going on in Dot's head. She actually felt adored, and practically loved. "Dot?"
"Yeah?" Dot bit her lip again, but didn't let go of Satsu's hand. "What is it? Are you in pain? Should I get someone in here? Can I get you anything?"
Satsu closed her eyes, a tear forming in the corner. "Thank you"
Dot leaned over and brushed the tear away, sniffling a little. "No problem. I, um, I'm happy to do it. I'm so glad I wasn't at work tonight -- I can't even imagine what a mess that would have been."
"For the record..." She grinned, knowing Dot was trying hard. "So far... you're... a really good girlfriend."
Dot blushed. "I try, but you know that. And, you know, now you're just stuck with me. I'm not like the rest of the confused girls you've got strewn all over the world."
"Mm. I better... give the rest of 'em... away then." Satsu tried not to chuckle (frankly, it hurt too bad), and squeezed Dot's hand again. "You're gonna be... enough for me to handle."
Dot smiled, and squeezed Satsu's hand. "Finally she catches on. There's hope for you yet."
"Would you... take my necklace off, please?" Satsu rolled her head back, exposing her neck, and the thin silver chain with a star pendant that was around it.
"Oh, sure. Hold still for just a second, okay?" Dot reached down and undid the clasp, sliding the necklace off and then reclasping it, then holding it up to look at the pendant. "This is pretty.."
"I want you... to wear it, ok?" Satsu smiled bravely. "To think about me."
Dot blushed again, ducking her head. "Okay. I will. I don't have anything here for you, though. You really should have thought of that before you got yourself put in here, hm?" She grinned, slightly, then fastened the necklace around her neck.
Satsu grinned up at Dot, looking at the clock. "It's... gettin' late, cutie. Gimme a kiss..." She took a deep breath and winced, "then get your sweet little butt home and... get some rest. Besides... I'm 'bout to..." She made a motion of pressing the little button that gives her more morphine. "and that'll... knock me out."
Dot reached for the lightswitch on instinct, before remembering that the lights were already dim enough. "Do you want me to pull the curtains, just in case?"
Satsu gave a tired nod, feeling protected somehow, despite her condition.
Dot smiled, then tugged the curtains around the bed closed. "Sleep well, supergirl." She tiptoed out of the room and out into the hall.
