"Thank you," Rachel said, and started heading out. "You know, I don't even know your name - all the reports just call you 'Master V'. What's the V stand for?"
She thought it could be Vampire, but there was a chance it was something different, like a name. Couldn't hurt to ask.
"Heh. Nobody asks about that. But long time ago, I was called Vincent," Master V said. "But whenever somebody sees a black person around here, they assume they're a rapper or a thug with a cool name, so I eventually decided to go with Master V instead. Sounds better. Inspires respect. Ain't nobody gonna walk up and salute a brother named Vincent."
"Don't make it too big a habit," Master V advised. "But y'all can call me Vincent Valentine for all you want as long as you ain't gonna start wreckin' the place."
She shook her head. "But no, I try to keep in good spirits- there's no sense in being less than pleasant with things, as long as you can be."
