A girl with her own wood, wet pants and more

Jun 23, 2008 20:36

Who: Emil, Xavier, Eva, Delilah, Sam, Stephan, Carmen, Tony,Dot, Sherry
Where: Sid's
When: Sunday night

Emil sat at Sid's, having a cup of coffee and a donut.

Eva was in Sid's, alone for once, and having her second cup of coffee.

Delilah decided to have dinner at Sid's tonight, not feeling like cooking for one again. She carried with her a set of wooden utensils. While some days were worse than others, her and metal did not usually mix.

Emil noticed the carry-your-own lady, and raised a brow. He wondered if there was something he should know about the silverware here.

Xavier didn't seem to mind using the provided utensils, and was enjoying a steak-and-eggs platter.

"LOok at that," Emil said, nudging Xavier. "Do you think there's something wrong with the forks?"

Sam headed into the diner with her violin case and a notebook. She settled at the counter, giving Xavier a small wave as she sat.

Delilah heard someone notice her using her own set of utensils, but she wasn't going to eletrcute another person just because of stupid currents. She kept on eating her bacon and eggs with little thought.

"Eh, a little lead never killed anyone," Xavier said.

Emil laughed. "Well, now I'm curious..."

Stephan settled at Eva's booth. "More coffee?" he asked.

"Always coffee." Eva smiled

Emil tried to get the lady's attention. "Excuse me..."

Delilah looked up at him. "Yes, can I help you?"

"Just curious - is there something wrong with the silverware here?" Emil asked.

"No, it's just a personal quirk," Delilah told him, not exactly wanting to admit to having to watch for shocking people with metal silverware.

"Oh, okay..." Emil smiled. "I was a bit worried there for a moment - considering I just used a spoon to stir my coffee."

"The lead... the lead..." Xavier teased from his seat.

Delilah smiled at him. "No, it's nothing like that. I use my own set everywhere I go."

Zack was making the rounds, and stopped by Emil and Xavier's table, glancing at Delilah. "Hey ... need anything here? You need a menu, miss?"

"I wouldn't mind another cup of coffee," Emil said.

"More coffee. please" Eva requested when it was her turn. And she wasn't being nosy, really. Ok, she was.

(Delilah already has food.)

"Cool ... " Zack snagged a pot and made with the refilling.

"Could I get another coffee please?" Delilah asked the waiter.

"I'd like a hamburger, medium-rare, and onion rings," Stephan ordered. "Please."

Zack refilled Emil, Eva and Delilah's cups, then put Stephan's order in.

"I could use another coffee, too," Xavier added.

... and Xavier also got a refill.

Emil sipped his coffee, feeling a bit awkward about inquiring further about the quirky fork thing now that some time had passed from his earlier question.

Delilah smiled at Emil again. "I'm Delilah Zamora, by the way. I teach part time at the high school."

Xavier nodded. "I've seen you in the teacher's lounge a time or two."

"Oh! That's why you look familar," Emil said, smiling. "I'm Emil- I'm an assistant teacher there."

Delilah nodded, recognition finally clicking in her head. "Unfortunately, I'm only there a few hours a day at the moment. Still, it's a good job. I like teaching the film classes."

"Oh, you teach film? That's great- that's a good subject for students," Emil said. "I hope to get a philosphy class going when I get my full acrediations."

"I'm sure that there will be an interest in philosophy. Sunnydale High actually carries a good assortment of classes." Delilah had been impressed by the class roster.

Carmen headed in, to get a break from her house, and the kitchen. She waved to Emil and Xavier as she took her seat.

Tony headed in after, humming to himself.

Emil gave Carmen a smile and wave. "And there's our school librarian."

"Hello, Emil, Mr-... Xavier. It's hard to call you that... and I'm sorry. You are - I don't remember your name. This is my boyfriend" she smiled, and pointed to Tony

Xavier chuckled. "It's quite alright, Carmen."

Tony grinned and waved. "Howdy."

"Hello, and it's Delilah Zamora. I'm still technically new, so it's fine."

"Nice to meet you," Emil said to Tony.

Stephan gave Eva's hand a squeeze. "So, how's your day been?"

"Likewise," Tony said, nodding.

"It's been okay" Eva said "It's Sunday, so I haven't done any work. I called home, and I went for a walk."

"Sounds nice," Stephan said. "I was just kind of lazy ... i watched a lot of TV."

"What do you teach the kids in film class?" Emil asked, curious.

"I do that sometimes." Eva said

"Well, the beginner class is mostly teaching them how to handle a camera and learning different types of shots. I think that one reason that kids sign up for the class is because it's a lot of movie clip watching." Delilah smiled. "The final project for the class is a ten minute film of their choosing, with the subject approved by me, of course."

"The second class gets to do more filming. Hopefully, if there's enough interest, they might let me teach a third level of the class. By that point, they might be making full length movies," Delilah told him.

"That sounds like fun," Emil said. "I bet they really enjoy that."

"It was mostly old movies ... stuff I haven't seen since I was in high school," Stephan said.

Xavier nodded. "Technology is rapidly giving anyone the ability to make movies ... I like that."

"I probably haven't seen any of them." Eva said

"We didn't have that when I went there." Carmen said "The students now have many oppurunities."

Xavier nodded.

Stephan grinned. "What's your favorite movie?"

"I don't have one." Eva said "I don't really watch movies."

"Really? How abouta favorite book?" Stepahn tried.

"The students who actually are there for the ability to film tend to like it more than the ones who signed up just to watch movies, but I would have loved that in high school," Delilah said.

"Is there going to be a showing of the student film projects?" Emil asked. "I'd like to see them."

Eva thought about it, and shook her head no.

"Not really a fan of cultural stuff, I guess," Stephan said. "No time for it?"

"Do you need books on film in the library?" asked Carmen "I can order books that I think are needed." she seemed glad about that

"I'm sure that something can be arranged at the end of the year," Delilah told him. "I'm sure that the students would like books that could suppliment the text, thank you."

"We didn't learn that in school" Eva said "What I'm learning in college is the first I've heard of many things."

Stephan nodded. "That's cool. I hope your professor doesn't completely put you off art."

Carmen smiled, happy that she could order stuff. The teachers at the school probably liked giving her book requests. She tended to fill them quickly.

Emil sipped his coffee. "Carmen, do you think we could get more books on the Chumash indians in the library?"

Xavier nodded. "That would be good... I was considering devoting a segment of one of my courses to them."

"I have some in my own collection." Carmen said "But they are hard to find."

"I will order what I can find." Carmen added

"Art." Eva frowned "I don't understand it."

"Excuse my lack of knowledge, but who are the Chumash Indians? Are they local to the area?" Delilah asked.

"Yes," Emil said. "They are the indigionous people of our area - those who walked the lands before the Spanish came to bring their missions to California."

"Not everybody does," Stephan said. "But more people claim to understand it than actually do. And lots more people claim to be talented when they really aren't."

"Correct. There's still a settlement of them in Santa Yvez," Xavier said, "but much of the cultural tradition has yet to be properly documented and interpreted."

Delilah herself wondered if video was a proper way of documenting tradition. Just a thought, though. "Maybe I should get myself a book on them as well. It can't hurt to be informed."

"Oh... I have my research on them." Carmen said "I could have that bound, if you think it would be helpful?"

"I'd love to see it," Emil said.

"Me too," Xavier said.

"I'll bring it in tomorrow." Carmen said "It was very interesting, and I'll bring my books in for a loan. I don't want to lose them, since they are hard to replace"

"I can imagine," Delilah said. When she finished her meal, she carefully put her utensils into the pouch that she had for them and put them away.

"Why the wooden utensils?" asked Carmen

"It's just a quirk of mine," Delilah answered.

Carmen nodded, and looked like she was trying not to giggle.

"We all have our eccentricities," Xavier commented.

Emil smiled. "I asked that already. I was worried about the silverware quality here."

"Yes... we do." Carmen said

"I know about drugs." Eva said, to Stephan "And keeping house."

"I'm just a little odd is all," Delilah said with a grin. Plus, in a pinch, they could work as a stake. Everything should be able to have more than one use.

"Excuse me." Carmen said. She needed to get to the bathroom, where she could laugh about the jokes she had heard.

Tony looked to Carmen, to make sure it was a 'happy' be-right-back as opposed to 'the ghosts are telling me about torture.'

She looked liked she was going to laugh, so it was a happy

"She's a nice lady," Emil said.

"She is," Xavier agreed.

"She certainly seems to be," Delilah said. "I'll have to stop by the library. Does it have a good, broad selection?"

"Surprizingly good," Emil said. "I'd be happy to show it to you sometime."

"I suppose that depends on your tastes," Xavier commented.

"I'd enjoy that," Delilah said. "What type of 'tastes' does it cater to." Knowing this town, it probably had a good selection of supernatural books.

"There is a large occult section," Emil offered casually.

Delilah shrugged before she thought about it. "That's not too surprising, especially with the magic shop in town."

Carmen returned a few minutes later, in a good mood. She'd been having a good laugh.

"Feel better?" Tony asked.

"Yes." Carmen replied, smiling, and trying not to listen to any more bad jokes about the people in the diner

"Good." Tony squeezed her hand and grinned slightly.

Carmen grinned at Tony.

Tony made a point to ask her later what was so amusing -- but not polite to do so in present company.

Emil finished his coffee, and looked down at the bottom of the cup. He seemed at a loss for conversation.

Something crossed Eva's mind, and she got nervous- which meant her coffee cup tipped over and spilled onto the Stephan

"Is the occult section of the library any good?" Delilah asked. Of course, what she wanted to know was if there was anything that the kids might hurt themselves or others with, but didn't know how to ask that.

"Oh yes." Carmen said "But I keep most of the really good stuff with my personal collection. It's safer that way."

"Ow!" Stephan said, leaping to his feet.

"That's for the best." Delilah did not want children to blow themselves up or anything with a spell going wrong.

"...I'm sorry." Eva frowned "Here..." she failed at grabbing napkins to get the coffee up with

Xavier glanced over, bemused.

Emil jumped at the sudden commotion.

Stephan grabbed napkins and did what he could, laughing a little. "That's okay. It was hot, though ... "

Delilah looked over, startled.

Eva realized a lot of people were watching her now, so she got a little more nervous, and managed to knock Stephans plate over. Nervous Eva was bad Eva

"I hope that girl doesn't wait tables or handle scalpels," Xavier commented quietly.

Emil winced. "That would be dangerous."

"Or handle small children," Delilah said softly.

Eva was bright red, and tried to head away from the table.

"No ... that's okay," Stephan said. "We can stay ... or leave ... whatever you want."

"I'm sorry." Eva said "When I'm nervous, I'm not cordinated, so I can't be around you right now."

"Why are you nervous?" Stephan asked.

"Because I'm not good in social situations, and that is what this is, and I've just made a fool of myself in front of all of these people, and I've spilled my coffee."

" ... we've been in social situations pretty much every night for a couple of weeks, now," Stephan said, bemused.

Eva just headed out

Emil frowned, feeling bad for Eva.

Stephan sighed, dropped money on the table and followed her.

"And I thought I was socially awkward," Emil said.

"Apparently, you thought wrong," Xavier suggested.

"The poor girl," Delilah muttered. She picked up her ticket and put down some money with it, plus tip. "I should be going. It's getting a little late to my liking." Delilah didn't like being out too much after dark, even if she had a car.

"Why are you following me?" Eva asked Stephan. She was fumbling around, getting the keys to unlock her bicycle

"Because we're supposed to be hanging out together, tonight," he said.

"Have a good night," Emil said. "See you at school tomorrow..."

Xavier nodded, and finished his coffee.

Delilah smiled at him as she stood up. "You, too. See you then."

"Find better people to hang out with." Eva said "I should go... study." she gave up searching for her keys, and unrolled her lockpicks.

"Not possible," Stephan said with a smile. "Look ... you're obviously a little stressed ... so, no worries. Will you at least meet me tomorrow to hang out?"

"I don't know." Eva replied, picking the lock on her bike

"I'd be really sad if you didn't," Stephan said, pouting comically.

"I really don't want to fall off my bike." Eva said, after her bike was unlocked "So, perhaps I will see you soon." She slowly started to head away. When she got a distance away from Stepham, she pedaled away

Stephan sighed again, got in his car and went home.

"Well that was certainly strange," Emil said to Xavier. He contemplated his empty cup, and whether he wanted another hit of coffee.

Xavier nodded. "What isn't, around here?"

Emil chuckled. "This is true."

Zack came around with the coffee pot again, refilling.

Dot waved to Zack as she came out from the back. "Okay, my break's over if you want to take one yourself."

Emil sipped at his fresh coffee.

Xavier nodded his thanks, and added some sugar to his before sipping.

"Ah, there's one of our students," Emil said, nodding in greeting to Dot. "I didn't know she worked here."

Dot waved back to Emil, stopping at another table to see if they needed anything.

"Cool, thanks hon," Zack said with a grin. Hes set the coffee pot on the burner and went out back to smoke.

Dot made her way from table to table, stopping to check and make sure that everyone was doing okay.

"I'm fine, Dot. Do you have your homework finished?" Xavier asked.

"Sure do! That's what i was doing on my break, sir," Dot assured him.

Sherry walked into Sid's, her ear to a cell phone. It was 1998, so it wasn't a very common sight- yet.

Emil smiled. Good students rocked.

"Good... and you're sure you'll get enough sleep?" Xavier inquired.

Dot nodded. "I slept really well last night, after my first shift."

"Yes, but that was the weekend -- you're due at school in six and a half hours," Xavier pointed out. "To be fair, I should be heading home soon, too..."

Sherry sat at a table, and continued her conversation. "Look, you are either going to have to let me use your car, or stop using mine. I don't like walking alone at night in this town. I don't care about your- look, my car, in one hour, or I call my Daddy." she hung up the phone.

Dot nodded. "I'm almost done here." She waved to Sherry. "Excuse me, sir." She made her way to over Sherry's table.

"Hey" Sherry smiled "

"It is about that time, isn't it?" Emil agreed. "At least soon."

"Hi! What can i get you?" Dot smiled.

"Good." Xavier turned to Emil. "It is... heh, at least for me. You can always sleep through a few periods."

"I'd like to order cheesecake, a strawberry milkshake, and a house salad." Sherry said, smiling

Dot wrote all that down. "OKay, no problem. Anything else?"

"That'll do it. Thanks." Sherry said.

"You got it!" Dot headed off to put the order in.

Sherry was about to make another phone call, when she noticed that Emil and Xavier were sitting at a nearby table. Well, there went to chance of faking sick the next day.

Emil noted another student, and nodded a greeting.

Xavier glanced over at whom Emil was nodding at, and chuckled.

Sherry waved. "I guess I don't look very sick, do I?"

"Not yet," Xavier assured.

Sherry faked a cough. "Now?"

"No. Try the chili dogs. That'll help," Xavier suggested.

Dot returned with a milkshake and salad for Sherry, and set it down in front of her. "Here you go! You didn't say which dressing you wanted, so just let me know and I'll bring it right back with the cheesecake."

"No dressing." Sherry said "The rabbit food is just to make me feel better about the milkshake and cheesecake."

Dot grinned. "You got it. I'll be right back with the cheesecake."

"So, I take it you haven't finished your homework?" Xavier inquired.

"Oh, I've finished it." Sherry said "But my Stepmom won't be back with my car for at least two hours, and I like to sleep."

"Ah... I see. Do you need a ride?" Xavier asked.

"That would be great." said Sherry

Dot returned with the cheesecake. "There you are! If you need anything else, just ask for Dot." She smiled and moved away to sit up at the counter.

"Well, then, we'll give you a ride when you're done," Xavier said.

"Thank you." Sherry smiled "I'll pay you for gas."

"You don't have to," Emil said. "It's okay."

Xavier shrugged. "Gas isn't that expensive, anyhow."

"It's a lot more expensive than it is back east." Sherry said

Dot made one more circuit of the room to make sure everyone was doing okay, then went back to see what had happened to her coworker.

Zack was still out back, smoking. "Hey. Everything okay in there?"

Dot nodded. "I just wanted to make sure you were still back here." She grinned, adding, "I'm due to be done in a few minutes."

"Ah .... okay." He flicked thecigarette away and went inside to wash his hands.

Dot followed after. "Thanks, sorry to be a pest."

"No worries, I was jusy slackin'," Zack said with a laugh. "At least it'll get slow later on, and i can just relax for a while."

Dot nodded. "Good plan!" She went out to check on her tables again.

Sherry was eating her food, glad that she could get a ride home, and not have to wait for her bratty stepmother

Dot perched up at the counter and kept an eye on the customers.

Xavier waited calmly.

Dot stopped by Xavier's table. "Anybody need anything else here?"

"No thank you- we're just about to head out," Emil said.

"Just the check, then?"

"I'm done." Sherry said. She handed Dot too much money. "That should cover it, and your tip, right?"

"Yes, please," Xavier nodded.

"Okay, I'll be right back with that." To Sherry, she said, "Give me just one second and I'll be back with your check too."

Dot went to get checks, and brought them back. "Here you go!"

Shery handed it right back, with the same amount of money.

"Thanks," Emil said, and paid up for him and Xavier.

Dot smiled. "Thanks so much! Anybody gonna need change?"

"No change." Sherry said "Mr.Welch, thank you again for the ride."

Xavier nodded, and got to his feet. "No trouble."

Sherry considered calling her stepmother- and decided that she'd do it a bit later. As long as she didn't forget, everything would be fine. She got up to follow Xavier out.

"Okay, thanks! Have a good night!" Dot took the checks and money up to the register.

Xavier headed on out, and led the way to his car.

Emil got on in.

Sherry got on in, and direced them to the area where Cordelia lived. "Thank you very, very, very much."
